Ulf Arnesen and Donna Adams take Open Division titles at ALSAA Open

Ulf Arnesen from Norway and English ranking leader Donna Adams won the titles in the men's and women's Open Division in the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006 at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland.
Arnesen rolled the first of six 300-games in the tournament en route to claim the men's title and the 1.500 Euro top prize. Graham Turner finished second in the Open Division and led the Irish Division with 1259. Del Delany, Ireland, and Ken Bland, United States, were tied for third place with 1216.
Adams shot the first 300-game by a woman in ALSAA Bowl since the center opened in 1984 to set a new five-game tournament record with 1257. Defending champion Zara Glover, England, was mere six pins behind in second place with 2004 ALSAA champion Britt Bröndsted, Denmark, in third at 1159.

Eoin McLaughlin led the men's Junior Division since the very first day when he posted an 1179 five-game total and remained unchallenged. Alyona Mishencko a junior from the Ukraine waited till the last squad to roll a 1072, five game series en route to finish second in the women's Junior Division and to win the top junior prize money. Players could win only one prize per person, based on highest value/division.
The tournament format was five games without finals, moving one pair to the right for the five games or across the full 10 lanes of ALSAA Bowl. There were four divisions for both men and women: Open, Irish, ALSAA and Junior bowlers.

With the final squad to go on Sunday morning 11 a.m., Norwegian Ulf Arnesen and Donna Adams of England hold on to the lead in the men's and women's Open Division with 1263 and 1257 five-game total, respectively. English international Donna Adams used a perfect game to overtake the lead in the Women's Open Division in the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006. It was the first-ever 300-game by a woman in the history of the ALSAA Open and the first in ALSAA Bowl since the center opened in 1984 in Dublin, Ireland. The lefty topped the previous one-game record of 299 set by her team mate Zara Glover last year.
There were also two more 300games in the men's division on Friday. When American bowler Ken Bland (on the left) was about to play his third re-entry in this year's event in the 19:00 squad, Tournament Director Paddy Kilduff pointed out that all of the 35 300-games in ALSAA thus far were Irish, British or Norwegian. "We needed an American one as we put up small flags with each name over the lanes", said Kilduff. "So Ken obligingly went to lanes 9 and 10 and bowled a 300 in his first game."
Ralph Hughes (right), England, who was bowling on the same pair as Bland, provided another 300 in his second game on lanes 1 and 2. In the 21:00 squad local bowler, Del Delany, had his shot at another perfecto but only managed a 299.
Both Bland and Delany finished with 1216 (243,2). They are currently tied for third place in the Men's Open Division. Norwegian Ulf Arnesen held on to the lead with 1263, with Irish international Graham Turner in second place, 1259.

Three-time World Champion Zara Glover fired games of 226, 248, 277, 234 and 266 to jump into the lead in the Women's Open Division in 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open with 1251, five-game total and an average of 250,2. The defending champion from England broke her own record of 1166 by 85 pins.
Two-time European ranking champion and former World Ranking Masters winner Britt Bröndsted, Denmark, moved into second place with 1159. Previous leader Aimee Kellegher, Ireland, slipped to third place but continued to lead the Irish Division with 1152.

Aimee Kellegher became the first female bowler to crack the 1100-bar. The Irish junior rolled game of 263, 170, 249, 223 and 247 for 1152 pinfall total, an average of 230,40 average, to overtake the lead in the Open, Irish and Junior Division. Previous leader Aoife Hall slipped to second in the Open Division but continued to lead the ALSAA Division with 1095.

Hall rolled games of 245, 188, 222, 216 and 224 to overtake previous leader Laura Meade by eight pins. Meade is second at 1087, with Amanda McDermott mere one pin behind in third place at 1086.
Alan McDonnell remained atop the leaderboard in the Men's Open Division. McDonnell, who works in ALSAA Bowl as a mechanic and lanesman, lead the field with 1207 five-game total or an average of 241,40.

Meade finished her block with a 229-score, her highest game of the day, to overtake previous leader Amanda McDermott by one pin with 1087 pinfall total, an average of 217,40.

The men's record is 1298 (259,60 average) from Alan Gibbons, Ireland, set in 2003.

Ulf Arnesen from Norway and English ranking leader Donna Adams won the titles in the men's and women's Open Division in the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006 at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. Arnesen rolled the first of six 300-games in the tournament en route to claim the men's title and the 1.500 Euro top prize. Graham Turner finished second in the Open Division and led the Irish Division with 1259. Del Delany, Ireland, and Ken Bland, United States, were tied for third place with 1216.
Adams shot the first 300-game by a woman in ALSAA Bowl since the center opened in 1984 to set a new five-game tournament record with 1257. Defending champion Zara Glover, England, was mere six pins behind in second place with 2004 ALSAA champion Britt Bröndsted, Denmark, in third at 1159. Paul Stott Jr., Marc Mooney, both from Ireland, American Ken Bland and Ralph Hughes, England, rolled the other perfectos. Aimee Kellegher (left) finished fourth in the Women's Open Division and won two other divisions, the Irish Division and the Junior Division. Eoin McLaughlin led the men's Junior Division since the very first day when he posted an 1179 five-game total and remained unchallenged. Alyona Mishencko a junior from the Ukraine waited till the last squad to roll a 1072, five game series en route to finish second in the women's Junior Division and to win the top junior prize money. Players could win only one prize per person, based on highest value/division. The tournament format was five games without finals, moving one pair to the right for the five games or across the full 10 lanes of ALSAA Bowl. There were four divisions for both men and women: Open, Irish, ALSAA and Junior bowlers.

No changes atop the leaderboard in ALSAA Open
There were no major changes on Saturday in the leaders of the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006 at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. Just one player, Sheila Mullally, found her way on to the leaderboard when she rolled 877 to move in seventh place in the Women's ALSAA Division.
With the final squad to go on Sunday morning 11 a.m., Norwegian Ulf Arnesen and Donna Adams of England hold on to the lead in the men's and women's Open Division with 1263 and 1257 five-game total, respectively. Arnesen rolled the first of six 300-games in the tournament thus far. Adams shot the first 300-game by a woman in ALSAA Bowl since the center opened in 1984. Donna Adams shoots first women's perfecto in ALSAA Open
English international Donna Adams used a perfect game to overtake the lead in the Women's Open Division in the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006. It was the first-ever 300-game by a woman in the history of the ALSAA Open and the first in ALSAA Bowl since the center opened in 1984 in Dublin, Ireland. The lefty topped the previous one-game record of 299 set by her team mate Zara Glover last year. Adams accomplished the feat in her first game, then added games of 228 and 213, before she finished with back-to-back 258s for 1257, an average of 251,4 over five games. Adams broke the tournament record set by defending champion Glover yesterday by six pins to overtake the lead in the Women's Open Division. Glover slipped to second at 1251, with European ranking champion Britt Bröndsted, Denmark, in third at 1159.
There were also two more 300games in the men's division on Friday. When American bowler Ken Bland (on the left) was about to play his third re-entry in this year's event in the 19:00 squad, Tournament Director Paddy Kilduff pointed out that all of the 35 300-games in ALSAA thus far were Irish, British or Norwegian. "We needed an American one as we put up small flags with each name over the lanes", said Kilduff. "So Ken obligingly went to lanes 9 and 10 and bowled a 300 in his first game."Ralph Hughes (right), England, who was bowling on the same pair as Bland, provided another 300 in his second game on lanes 1 and 2. In the 21:00 squad local bowler, Del Delany, had his shot at another perfecto but only managed a 299.
Both Bland and Delany finished with 1216 (243,2). They are currently tied for third place in the Men's Open Division. Zara Glover shatters record to take pole in Women's Open Division at ALSAA
Three-time World Champion Zara Glover fired games of 226, 248, 277, 234 and 266 to jump into the lead in the Women's Open Division in 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open with 1251, five-game total and an average of 250,2. The defending champion from England broke her own record of 1166 by 85 pins. Two-time European ranking champion and former World Ranking Masters winner Britt Bröndsted, Denmark, moved into second place with 1159. Previous leader Aimee Kellegher, Ireland, slipped to third place but continued to lead the Irish Division with 1152.

Arnesen totaled 1263 for his five games, an average of 252,60. Aimee Kellegher became the first female bowler to crack the 1100-bar. The Irish junior rolled game of 263, 170, 249, 223 and 247 for 1152 pinfall total, an average of 230,40 average, to overtake the lead in the Open, Irish and Junior Division. Previous leader Aoife Hall slipped to second in the Open Division but continued to lead the ALSAA Division with 1095. It was an action packed Wednesday at ALSAA Bowl with a second perfecto shot by Ireland's Paul Stott Jr. (pictured left with Arnesen)in the final game of the series. McDonnell and Meade move atop the leaderboard in ALSAA Open
Alan McDonnell and Laura Meade, both Ireland, overtook the lead in the Open Divisions of the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006 at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. McDonnell, who is a mechanic and lanesman in ALSAA Bowl, had games of 246, 180, 247, 279 and 255 to become the first player to crack the 1200-bar with 1207, an average of 241,40 for five games. Meade finished her block with a 229-score, her highest game of the day, to overtake previous leader Amanda McDermott by one pin with 1087 pinfall total, an average of 217,40. McDonnell won the 2004 ALSAA Open, when he filled in on the first squad to make up the numbers, as there were only 3 players. He then bowled 1240 and remained unchallenged.
The year before, eventual champion Alan Gibbons also bowled his 1298 in the first squad. For sure this is not what a tournament organizer is waiting for. Amanda McDermott and Eoin McLaughlin, both of Ireland, continued to lead the men's and women's Open Division in the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. Eoin McLaughlin and Hannah Cullen set the pace after two squads in the 7th ALSAA Re-entry Open Singles 2006 at ALSAA Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. McLaughlin (pictured) had games of 247, 216, 257, 266 and 193 to lead the men's division with for 1179, five-game total and an average of 235,80. Cullen rolled four 200-plus games but suffered a 147 in game foru to finish with 965 and an average of 193.
