ETBF changes format of European Championships and Champions Cup

The European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF) has announced changes in the format of the European Championships - adult and youth - and the European Champions Cup (ECC), formerly knows as European Cup for Individuals (ECI). 35 out of 46 member federations took part in an email ballot deciding on proposals made by the ETBF Presidium.
ETBF vice president Kim Thorsgaard Jensen reported that "a vast majority of the member federations have accepted the changes proposed by the Presidium."
The changes in the European Championships are
1) Elimination of the Singles event
2) Doubles, Trios, Team and Masters on dual lane condition (adult only)
3) Masters final to be contested in best-of-three games match play
4) Medals in Doubles, Trios and Team event to be decided in semifinals and finals in one game matches (adult only)
The changes will be in effect as of the Women's European Championships 2006.

1) Three qualification blocks of 8 games (multiple lane conditions)
2) Top 8 Single Elimination in European style format on dual lane condition

There will be 12 games per player in the Doubles event, played in one short oil block of 6 games and one long oil block of 6 games.
There will be 6 games per player in the Trios event (unchanged), played in one short oil block of 3 games and one long oil block of 3 games.
There will be 6 games per player in the Team event (unchanged), played in one short oil block of 3 games and one long oil block of 3 games.
The All Event will be unchanged and decided over 24 games, of which 12 games will be played on short oil and 12 games will be played on long oil.
This change will be in effect as of the European Women Championships 2006.
The European Youth Championships will still be played on single lane condition in the events Doubles (6 games), Trios (6 games), Team (6 games) and All Events (18 games).

24 Players will qualify for the Masters (unchanged).
In all steps of the Masters the players will play best of three games matches in one pair of lanes, of which one dressed with short oil and the other one with long oil. The highest positioned player will choose the lane condition (short or long) for the first game.
In Step 1 players positioned 9-24 will play 8 matches.
In Step 2 players positioned 1-8 and the winners of the matches from Step 1 will play 8 matches.
In Step 3 the winners of the matches from Step 2 will play 4 matches.
In Step 4 the winners of the matches from Step 3 will play 2 matches (the semi-finals).
In Step 5 the winners of the matches from Step 4 will play 1 match (the final).
This change will be in effect as of the European Women Championships 2006.

Three qualification blocks of 8 games
In the European Champions Cup (ECC), formerly knows as European Cup for Individuals (ECI), there will be three blocks of 8 games in the qualification (one block each day), one block played on the short condition, one block played on the long condition and one block played on the mixed condition (the short condition on one lane and the long condition on the other lane of the same pair).

Top 8 Single Elimination in European style format on dual lane condition
There will be one pair of lanes available for each match in the two top 8 eliminations in the European Champions Cup, one lane dressed with the short condition and one lane dressed with the long condition.
Players will alter between the two lanes after each game and the highest positioned player after the qualification will decide on which lane to play the first game.
This change will be in effect as of the European Champions Cup 2006.
