Bigi Manico and Mathieu Berges win Swiss National Championships

    Berges-Manico_5074.jpg Defending women's champion and long-time international Bigi Manico and youth bowler Mathieu Berges won the women's and men's title in the 2005 Swiss National Championships.

    Manico, from Zurich, averaged 210,89 including a high game of 251 and compiled a 7-2 won-lost record in matchplay to win her third consecutive national title and fifth overall with 1968 pinfall total. The lefty topped runner-up Valérie Cornuz by 51 pins. Cornuz won all nine matches to end up with 1917. Mere one pin behind to finish in third place was Ruth Doppler with 1916.

    Mathieu Berges, who represented his country together with Manico in the 2004 AMF Bowling World Cup in Singapore - he finished in 10th place and rolled a 300-game in the Round of 24 - had a low game of 217 and a high game of 266 en route to win all his nine matches. The 19-year-old from Lausanne averaged 239 over nine games to finish 204 pins ahead of Louis Pari with 2241 pinfall total. Pari was second with 2037 and a 6-3 won-lost record while Jean Company went 5-4 to finish third with 1975.

    Both champions will represent Switzerland in the European Cup for Individuals in Böblingen, Germany, September 5-11.
