3-time World Champion Anders "Linus" Öhman and Helen Johnsson captured the men's and women's National Championship at Vilbergen Superbowl in Norrköping, Sweden.

Öhman, who won gold medals All Events, Doubles and Team in the 2003 World Championships in Malaysia, collected his first individual national title when he defeated his fellow national team player Magnus Andersson in a high scoring final. "This was a title I really wanted to win. Next is the AMF Bowling World Cup", said Öhman with relief.

Öhman was runner-up in the National Championship both in 2001 and 2003. Things didn't look too promising this time either as he lost the first game of the quarterfinal match aginst Tobias Melin, 258-191. However, Öhman found his striking touch at the right moment. He had no more open frame after that and was striking at will.

In the semifinal it went to a third and decisive game against Mathias Arup. Both players were on fire and finally "Linus" escaped with a 277-255 victory!

In the final both Öhman and Andersson came up with strong performances. Magnus Andersson, the soft-playing lefthander, was ahead in both games, but opened in the 8th frame twice and couldn't recover after that. Öhman won the first game with 237-225 and the second with 256-234.

Helen Johnsson has dominated the scene in women's bowling in Sweden for the last 18 months. Therefore, it was no surprise that she won the National Championship after another superb performance. It was the third national title after 1997 and 1999 for Johnsson, who averaged 228 on her way to the title.

In the championship match she defeated Eva Jönsson, a 3-time Swedish national champion, in two straight games.

Anders Öhman and Helen Johnsson will represent Sweden both in the European Cup for Individuals in Germany in September and the AMF Bowling World Cup in Slovenia in November.
