Costas Kyriakou puts on a show to win 1st Cockatoos Pafos Open

Costas Kyriakou became a local hero when he captured the title in the 1st Cockatoos Pafos Open at Cockatoos Bowling Center in Pafos, Cyprus. Kyriakou seeded third after round robin match play had to win three straight matches to earn the title, and that was exactly what he did.
In the opening match against No. 4 seed Kostas Sakellariou, player, coach, tournament organizer from Athens, Greece, Kyriakou advanced with a 183-171 victory.
The 38-year-old former international, who won a bronze medal in the 1998 European Cup Individual, put on a show in the semifinal match against second-seeded Ville Holmström from Finland. Kyriakou spared in his first frame then reeled of 11 consecutive strikes to put the match away well before the final frame, 290-186.
In the championship match Kyriakou crowned himself the first champion of the Cockatoos Pafos Open, when he defeated No. 1 seed Or Aviram, from Israel, 227-206 en route to pocket the 5.000 top prize.
The tournament that offered a total prize fund of 20.000 Euro was held July 29 through August 7, 2005 and attracted 130 players from ten countries, England, Finland, Greece, Israel, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden and Cyprus.
