It's down to four in Girls and Boys Masters at 11th World Youth Championships

    3 Korean men and 2 women advance to the semifinals starting Sunday morning at 8 a.m.

    2010WYCLogo.jpg3 out of 3 Korean men and 2/4 women advanced to the semifinals in the girls and boys Masters finals at the 11th World Youth Championships. By accomplishing the feat Korea will medal in each of the 10 disciplines at Tali Bowl in Helsinki´, Finland.

    In the boys semis, No. 2 seed Park Jong-Woo meets No. 13 Kim Ju-Young and No. 8 Shin Seung-Hyeon takes on No. 5 Daniels Vezis, Latvia.

    All Events silver medalist Park swept his opponent in the Round of 16, No. 15 Dwayne van Zandwijk, and in the Quarterfinal, Phil Hulst, both Netherlands, three-games-to-none in the best-of-five games match play format.

    Kim had the tougher route to the semis, defeating No. 4 Mats Maggi, Belgium, 3-1, and All Events champion and top seed, Andrew Koff, United States, in the decider, 3-2.

    Shin went the distance against No. 9 Steven Miller, England, winning the deciding fifth game, 235-190. He went on to defeat Finland's Samu Valaranta, 3-1, including games of 235, 237 and 256.

    Vezis eliminated No 12 Kevin Belandria, Venezuela, in the first round, 3-1, after being down 0-1, and accomplished the same feat against '6 Kert Truus, Estonia.

    On the girls side, All Events champ and No. 1 seed Kim Moon-Jeong bowls No. 13 Laura Fonnegra, Colombia, while Singles champ, Kim Yeon-Ju, seeded 7th, squares off with No. 12 Carmen Haandrikman, Netherlands.

    Moon-Jeong eliminated the two U.S. girls in the field of 16 on her way to semifinals. In the opening round the Korean came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat No. 16 Christine Bator, 3-2. Moon-Jeong also lost the first game against No. 15 Jennifer Boisselle, but rebounded with three consecutive wins to advance.

    Fonnegra swept No. 4 Jazreel Tan, Singapore, in the Round of 16 and went on to defeat No. 9 Joline Persson Planefors, Sweden, 3-2, after being down 2-1 after three games.

    In an all-Korean affair, Yeon-Ju topped #10 Shin Bo-Hyun, 3-2, and came back from being down 2-0 against No. 14 Gabriela Hernandez, Mexico, to win the match, 3-2, behind games of 238, 224 and 242

    Haandrikman topped No. 5 Shayna Ng, Singapore, 3-1 and then No. 11 Tannya Roumimper, Indonesia, in a nerve-wrecking tie-breaker, 214-205 for a 3-2 victory.

    Korea, which is the sole of the 46 participating countries that has medaled in all eight disciplines (Singles, Doubles, Team and All Events) thus far, has seven of its eight players, 4 girls and three boys, in the Masters finals.
