Team Austria claims title in 5th Baker Trophy Zurich

    "The Austrians were one of the favorites", said tournament organizer Beat Grauwiler, "and they proved the odds makers right."

    2006BakerTrophyLausanneSport300.jpg Lausanne Sport (right) set the highlight in qualifying when the team posted a perfect game in the Baker scoring system format where each player plays two frames per game. The lead off player bowls the first and sixth frame, the second player the second and seventh frame and so on.

    The 13 participating teams bowled 24 games of qualifying after which the top ten teams advanced to the round robin finals, with each match consisting of two games. Bonus points were awarded based on total pinfall.

    "We hope that more tournaments will be contested in the Baker format", said Grauwiler. "and we're looking forward to welcoming more teams at bowling center BeSeCo next year."

    The top 4 teams after round robin match play advanced to the stepladder final. Trans Am Basel sidelined local favorites BC Strangers, 441-354, in the opening match. To meet second seeded Team Austria. The Austrians flew past their opponents with games of 233 and 269, 502-321.

    In the championship match against top-seeded Miami Lausanne, the Austrian won both games by 11 and 22 pins, respectively, to cruise to the title with 382-349 victory.
