Germans beat Italians to win Strangers Doubles Tournament

    Krause-Bhongbhibhat_5718.jpg Alexander Krause and Timm Bhongbhibhat from Germany defeated Italians Giacomo Giacomelli and Maurizio Celli, 432-426, to win the Strangers Doubles Tournament in Switzerland.

    The top 14 doubles after the intermediate round advanced to the knock-out finals. The two teams with the lowest scores after each round were eliminated.

    On the traditionally high-scoring lanes at Bowling-Halle BeSeCo in Rümikon, Krause punished the field with a 251-average over his seven games (203, 268, 278, 278, 236, 285, 209). The winners, who had a high game of 554 (285+269), posted their lowest score in the championship match. Krause managed only 209 but his partner contributed 223 to weather a strong challenge by Giacomelli (211) and Celli (215).

    Third place went to Louis Jaecker and Paulo Vial from France. No. 1 seeds Michael Holzapfel and Dirk Dreyer, Germany, were already eliminated in the second round behind a 359-game to land in 12th place. 66 doubles participated.
