Ramonde and Fernandez win Spanish National Championships

Better late than never, as they say. The 2005 Spanish National Championships were recently held in Madrid.
Juan C. Ramonde and Melvin Ocando battled it our for the men's title. Ocando held a slim 10-pin lead over Ramonde as he led the top 24 men after 12 games into the final six-game block. Ramonde, who had back-to-back 1377-series in the first two rounds finished with 1365 to overtake Ocando (1328 ) by 27 pins to secure the title with 4119 18-game total and an average of 228,83. Ocando finished second with 4092, with Cirilo Alvarez in third at 3912.
Dulce Fernandez was the clear winner of the women's division. The Madrilène used her home advantage to outaverage her nearest competitor, Sandra Torrents, by more than 13 pins. Fernandez was the sole woman to average over 200, totaling 3689 pins over 18 games, an average of 204,94. Torrents was second with 3454, while Virginia Esteban ended up in third place with 3375.
The top two men and top two women qualified for the 2006 Mediterranean Challenge Cup to be held in San Marino in March.
