Wayne Webb averages 250.8 to take first round lead in PBA Senior Mooresville Classic
05/08/12
Averaging 250.8 Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Wayne Webb (pictured left) captured the first round lead in the PBA Senior Mooresville Classic presented by Columbia Monday at George Pappas Victory Lanes.
Bowling in his first Senior Tour event of the season, Webb bowled a 2,007 pinfall total with games of 196, 278, 238, 255, 249, 299, 204 and 288.
"This was a block where I had to make a lot of adjustments both playing the lane and with my equipment," said the five-time Senior Tour titlist and 20-time PBA Tour winner.
"After the first game I realized I had to get a more aggressive ball and went with the most aggressive hooking ball I have. That worked for the next five games then after the seventh game I changed back to a much less aggressive ball and finished with 288.
"It was one of those blocks where I made the right adjustments at exactly the right time. It doesn't always work that way."
Webb, the 2010 Senior Player of the Year is coming off of a 2011 season in which he didn't win a title but had four top five finishes including a third in the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters.

"I had some commitments with the bowling center which kept me from bowling the first two tournaments of the season," said the Columbus, Ohio bowling proprietor. "It feels good to be back out here competing with these guys."
Webb holds a 36-pin lead over one-time Senior Tour titlist Mike Henry (left) of Brunswick, Ohio in second with 1,971. Five-time PBA Tour winner Bob Learn Jr. (right) of Erie, Pa., is in third with 1,931.
Eight-game qualifying continues Tuesday which will determine the top 32 who will advance to match play Wednesday morning. Round of 8 and championship rounds will get underway Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
