Lennie Boresch Jr. averages 250 to take first round lead in PBA Senior Dayton Classic
05/16/12
After two tournaments Lennie Boresch Jr. (pictured) of Kenosha, Wis., has already experienced the highs and lows of competing on the Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour. He won the opening tournament of the season in his Senior Tour debut but could only manage a 46th-place finish in the next tournament he entered.
But the 50-year-old pro shop owner and recent inductee into the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame was able to get back on track Tuesday by averaging 250.5 to take the first round lead in the PBA Senior Dayton Classic presented by Roto Grip at Capri Lanes.
Boresch bowled a consistent eight-game first round with games of 226, 235, 289, 257, 254, 230, 245 and 268 for a 2,004 pinfall total.
"I drilled up a new ball for the start of qualifying that matched up right away with the (lane) condition," said the 25-time PBA regional tournament winner. "It was just a matter of carrying the corner pins. I just had to make a few small adjustments in the whole block."
Boresch admitted to being a little stubborn about making a ball change in his 46th-place finish in the Senior Mooresville (N.C.) Classic last week.

"I was 23rd after the first round and probably should have changed to another ball for the second round," Boresch said. "I guess you could say I made some rookie mistakes and learned not to fall in love with the same ball. Now, I just need to learn from that experience."
Boresch holds a commanding 66-pin lead over Senior Dayton Classic defending champion Hugh Miller (left) of Seattle in second with 1,938. Rounding out the top five are last week's Senior Mooresville Classic winner Bob Learn Jr., 1,931; PBA Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia, Jackson, N.J., 1,930, and Bo Goergen (right), Sanford, Mich., 1,927.
The 114-player field will bowl another eight-game qualifying round Wednesday after which the top 32 players will advance to match play Thursday morning. Match play continues all day Thursday to determine the top four who will compete in the stepladder finals beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
The Senior Dayton Classic is being streamed live on pba.com's online bowling channel Xtra Frame.
