The PBA, in cooperation with Killer "B" Promotions, will provide live scoring on pba.com for the Teen Masters qualifying rounds from Freeway Lanes in Wickliffe, Ohio, Monday, July 9 through Wednesday, July 11.

Live scoring on pba.com will include the High School Girls and Boys, and 14-Under Boys and Girls six-game qualifying rounds on Monday and Tuesday, followed by a High School Girls and Boys "mixed lane condition" qualifying round Wednesday morning that will determine the match play finalists in both divisions.

Recaps of the high school round-robin match play rounds Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon, and Thursday's 14-Under championship rounds, also will be posted on pba.com.

The top four boys and top four girls will advance to the Teen Masters Grand Championships Aug. 6-8 at Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The Grand Championships will be carried live, exclusively on PBA's Xtra Frame online bowling channel.

More than 170 youth bowlers are expected to compete for more than $100,000 in scholarship money in the 15th annual Teen Masters event.

 

Best Bowler "ESPY" voting ends July 9

Reminder: Bowling fans have until Monday, July 9, to to cast their votes for the 2011-12 "best bowler" ESPY. The winner will be announced during the ESPY Awards telecasts which will air on Wednesday, July 11, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Chris Loschetter wins Brunswick Italia Challenge

Chris Loschetter (left) of Avon, Ohio, won his second European Bowling Tour title in the inaugural Brunswick Italia Challenge
on Sunday, July 1, at Bowling Red & Black in Asti, Italy, topping reigning PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash of Montgomery, Ill., by 55 pins for the win.

Loschetter, a 10-year PBA Tour veteran who is looking for his first PBA Tour title, finished the round robin match play finals with a 13-game total of 3,155 pins including match play bonus pins for the win. England's Dom Barrett finished third while Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Ronnie Russell of Camby, Ind., rounded out the top five.

 

PBA Tour stars have strong presence in Team USA competitions

The PBA will have a potent presence on Team USA as its pursues world titles in the World Tenpin Bowling Association's international competition later this year.

Chris Barnes (pictured left), Tommy Jones and newly-crowned U.S. Women's Open champion Kelly Kulick (right) will join amateur Shannon O'Keefe as Team USA's representatives in the inaugural WTBA World Singles Championships in Limassol, Cyprus, from Sept. 18-26.

Representing Team USA in the Pan American Bowling Confederation Combined Championships Aug. 18-25 at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center in Henderson, Nev., will be Patrick Allen, Bill O'Neill, Tommy Jones and amateurs John Janawicz, Steve Smith, and Marshall Kent on the men's squad while Liz Johnson will join Stefanie Nation, Josie Earnest, Diandra Asbaty, Shannon Pluhowsky and Leanne Hulsenberg on the women's team.

Sean Rash will bowl with AJ Johnson, Tammy Turner and Addileen Pointer at the 2012 Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas July 29-Aug. 4 in Tamarac, Fla. Kamron Doyle, the youngest player ever to "cash" in the U.S. Open, will bowl in the under-15 boys division. Doyle finished 61st in the 2012 U.S. Open at the age of 14.

Team USA's representatives for the 48th QubicaAMF World Cup will be Marshall Kent and Danielle McEwan, the winners in the Team USA Trials held earlier in the year. The World Cup takes place Nov. 24-Dec. 2 in Wroclaw, Poland.

 

Regional Roundup: Shafer, Pickford win "Animal Pattern" titles

PBA Tour veteran Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y. (pictured right with Homefield Bowl manager Mike Limekiller, left), defeated Jonathan Van Hees of Charlestown, R.I., 279-228, to win the PBA East Region Homefield Bowl Viper Open presented by Columbia 300 at Homefield Bowl on Sunday, July 1.

Shafer, who qualified for the finals by one pin, started Sunday's match play with back-to-back 258 games, advancing from last to first, a position he never relinquished. Shafer earned $2,500 and his 18th career PBA Regional title.

Brad Angelo of Lockport, N.Y., earned the East Region's second entry into the 2012 PBA World Series of Bowling as highest finisher among players who entered the East Region's optional "animal pattern" championship series competition.

In the PBA Central Region, Connor Pickford (right) of Charlotte, N.C., defeated Brandon Novak of Chillicothe, Ohio, by 25 pins to win his first PBA Regional title in the Storm Products/Beechmont Toyota Chameleon Open at Cherry Grove Lanes in Cincinnati on Sunday. Pickford finished with a 9-3 match play record and a total of 4,744 pins for 20 games, including match play bonus pins, to win the third of four PBA Central Region "animal pattern" championships. He also earned $2,600.

Brian Himmler of Cincinnati, who finished seventh, earned a paid entry into the 2012 PBA World Series of Bowling as the high finisher among those who paid the optional animal pattern championship series entry fee.

In the PBA Midwest Region, Dale Traber (left) of Cedarburg, Wis., rolled 269 in his final game of match play to go from fourth to first and win his 50th overall PBA Regional title in the one-day Fox Bowl Open sponsored by Allstate Insurance in Wheaton, Ill., on Sunday.

With his big finish, Traber won the title by 10 pins over rookie Derek Eoff of Madison, Wis., finishing with a 10-2 match play record and a 19-game total of 4,740 pins, including match play bonus pins.

The title was Traber's 39th career standard PBA Regional title. The 55-year-old right-hander also has won 11 Senior Regionals. Eoff also finished second in his PBA debut a week earlier in Oak Forest, Ill.

The July 6-8 weekend features two animal pattern championships: the South Region's Chameleon Open presented by Columbia 300 at George Pappas' Liberty Lanes in Gastonia, N.C., and the West Region's Vanessa Brown Homes Viper Open at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto, Calif.

Also on the calendar for July 6-8 are the PBA Midwest Miller Lite Regular/Senior Doubles sponsored by Allstate Insurance at Raymond's Johnsburg (Ill.) Bowl, and the East Region's Bethmann-Russell Syracuse Open at Flamingo Bowl in Liverpool, N.Y.

In all PBA regional animal pattern championships, players can pay an optional animal pattern entry fee for the right to win a paid entry into the PBA World Series of Bowling, Nov. 2-11 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

In all seven PBA Regions, the player who accumulates the highest number of competition points in the region's four animal pattern events (Cheetah, Scorpion, Chameleon and Viper) will earn a World Series entry, whether or not he participates in the "optional" entry program.

PBA member Andrew Cain (left) of Phoenix has been re-elected United States Bowling Congress President for a one-year term beginning Aug. 1. Cain, a five-year PBA member and winner of one PBA Regional title, has served on the USBC Board of Directors since 2007.

The former Arizona State University collegiate All-American has bowled since age 6, rolled his first 300 game at age 12 and has won nearly a dozen international medals as a former member of Team USA and Junior Team USA.

Grand Touring Vodka has signed PBA Tour stars Bill O'Neill and Tom Smallwood to marketing contracts to help promote the product to bowling centers across the U.S. Florida-based Grand Touring Vodka was founded by former NASCAR driver Greg Sacks and his family.
