Yoan Alix moves to the top in 8th Storm San Marino Open with 6/21 squads completed

    French bowlers dominate Day 3 qualifying, hold four of the top 5 spots; cut for 35th place is currently 1192 (198.67 average)

    2012EBT11YoanAlix.jpg2011EBT11SergeFrouvelle.jpgYoan Alix (pictured left) of France posted a 1333 six-game series in Monday's qualifying Squad 5 en route to leap from fourth to first place in the qualifying of the 8th Storm San Marino Open at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle.

    With six of 21 squads in the books, the long-time national team member is one of four French bowlers in the top 5. Alix came out of the gates commandingly with 204, 278, 243 and 237 but slowed down the last two games (193, 178) to overtake previous leader Renato Bortolon of Italy by just four pins. Bortolon slipped to second place with 1329.

    Past French national team members Serge Frouvelle (above right) and Laurence Gaillard finished 15 pins behind Alix with 1318. Frouvelle closed out his set with a huge 277 to overtake third place.

    Pierpaolo de Filippi (below right) of Italy led Squad 6 on Monday evening with 1285 and an average of 214.17 en route to move into 11th place in the overall qualifying standings. Pamela Frioni, Italy, currently holds the 35th and last place to advance with 1192 including 48 pins handicap.

    Qualifying continues Tuesday, July 10, with Squad 7 and 8 scheduled for 4 and 8 p.m. CEST.

    2012EBT11SanMarinoOpenBanner1_small.jpg 2012EBT11PierpaolodeFilippi.jpgThe 8th Storm San Marino Open is the 11th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the second out of four EBT "Gold" tournaments this season. The tournament will be held July 7-15 at 18-lane Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino and offers total prize fund of 60.200 Euro with 10.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 3.400 each to the third and fourth place finisher.

    The San Marino Open features a 40 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 24.3ml volume oil total.

    The qualifying of the San Marino Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Saturday July 7 through Saturday, July 14 with the last qualifying squad 21 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST. The qualifying winner will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus.

    Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad scheduled to start at half past Midnight. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 15 - the top 35 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 7-8, the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 9-10, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 11-12, and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 get one.

    The other 32 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 16, who will meet qualifiers 9-16 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 8, who will join the top eight qualifiers in single-elimination match play with the two game total pinfall determining the winner.

    The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 21 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, eight Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the San Marino Open 2012 gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
