Lambert finished the round with a total pinfall of 1592, averaging 227.43 for the seven-game block. He finished 29 pins ahead of second-place qualifier Lee Vanderhoef of Greenville, S.C.

"At the beginning of the day, I started the tournament trying to figure out the scoring pace," said Lambert. "I shot 246 the first game but realized that other bowlers had a good look as well; therefore I chose not to grind but to keep searching for a good line."

Lambert's highest career finish came at the 2006 USBC Masters, where he finished third, losing to Doug Kent in the televised semifinals. Earlier this season, he finished 33rd out of 195 bowlers at the PBA World Championship in his hometown of Wichita.

Lambert recently graduated from Wichita State University and was co-captain of the Men's Championship team at the 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. He has been a member of Team Canada every year from 1999-2008.

In addition to Lambert and Vanderhoef, four other professional bowlers advanced, as well as one amateur, Anthony LaCaze of Melrose Park, Ill.
