3937 rolled by team featuring Columbia 300 products

ProBowlWest3937.jpgThe 5-man Pro Bowl West team from Chattanooga set a new national 3-game record score on Monday, March 30, with four team members using Columbia 300 and Ebonite balls (pending approval by USBC). The new record score, 3937, thrown at Holiday Bowl Brainerd replaces the previous record of 3934 posted in New Castle, Delaware in 2004.

"This is our second year together as a league team," said Frank Massengale, team captain who used a Columbia 300 Loud NoiZe to throw a 784 series (279-239-266). Massengale said he did not realize they had thrown a record score until he made a few phone calls.

Massengale further commented, "I have used Columbia equipment all my life, all the way back to my first Black U-Dot in 1987, and I have never thrown a Columbia 300 ball I didn't like."

Massengale has 91 – 300 games and 79 – 800 series, all sanctioned, to his credit and had only used his Loud NoiZe ball two previous times prior to making history on Monday night. "I used my Loud NoiZe straight out of the box and did not make any surface modifications," he shared.

Other team members and scores included:

Chris Cross – 805 (256-259-290)
Chris Massengale – 828 (290-258-280)
Anthony Reviere – 748 (237-256-255)
Gary Workman – 772 (279-238-255)

Cross used a Columbia 300 Jazz, Chris Massengale used a Columbia 300 Power Swing and Anthony Reviere threw an Ebonite Magic.

Chris Massengale, Frank's son, has also only used Columbia 300 equipment during his nine-year bowling career. Chris' 828 series is just five pins shy of his personal best three-game score. He has 15 – 300 games and 10 – 800 series on his personal roster.

Chris Cross, the only lefthander on the team, used his almost new Columbia 300 Jazz to throw an 805 on Monday and had just thrown an 805 the day before the national record was set. These two back-to-back 800 series for Cross were his second and third ever thrown.

Going into Monday night the Pro Bowl West team's goal was to win four games to make the postseason roll-offs. Not only did they advance to the postseason, the team had the best four-game series and the sixth best in league play. They broke the previous Chattanooga Area Bowling Association and Tennessee State Bowling Association five-person game record of 1,339 that was set in 2005.

"Columbia 300 is thrilled to hear of this new national record and proud to say that our balls helped set the bar even higher for competitive league bowling," said brand manager Chad Murphy. "Frank and his talented team deserve our greatest congratulations and thanks for using our brand."
