Doug Kent wins qualifying in Ebonite International Luxembourg Open

The 10-time PBA champion led the field of 183 players with 1427 pinfall total and an average of 237.83. 3-time European Bowling Tour ranking champion and 2009 EBT Masters winner, Paul Moor (right), England, rolled six games between 222 and 245 in the 13th and penultimate qualifying squad on Saturday to jump into second place with 1426.

Places 6-9 belonged to Belgian bowlers Nico Joris (1337), Jean-Marc Lebon (1326), Mats Maggi (1325) and Gery Verbruggen (1324).

Rounding out the top 14, who will bypass the first round of the finals were 10. Thomas Larsen, Denmark, 1321; 11. Peter Lapp, Germany, 1321; 12. Osku Palermaa, Finland, 1320; 13. Francois Louw, South Africa, 1319 and 14. David Canady, Germany, 1304.

Her compatriot Nicole Sanders (right) hit the cutoff number for 44th place with 1252.

The best bowler from the host country Luxembourg, David Manderscheid, landed in 102nd place with 1156 (192.67).

The Ebonite International Luxembourg Open is the 13th stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Challenger" events. The tournament will be held from Oct. 20-25, 2009 at X-Treme Bowling & Billard in Foetz, Luxembourg, and offers total prize fund of 35.000 Euro, or about 52,350 U.S. dollars.

A total of 50 players - the top 44 from the qualifying (six games) and top 6 from the Desperado Squad - advance to the finals on Sunday, Oct. 25. The top 14 qualifiers earn one bye and will be automatically seeded into Final Round 2.

The remaining 36 players will bowl 6 games starting from scratch. The top 18, seeded 15th-32nd, will join the top 14 qualifiers in single-elimination matches over two games total pinfall. The highest seed bowls the lowest seed, the second highest bowls the second lowest, etc.

The single-elimination finals start with the Round of 32. The field is cut to 16, 8, 4 and then 2 who will vie for the title and 4.000 Euro top prize.

Standings after Qualifying


The top 44 from the qualifying plus the top 6 from the Desperado Squad (places 45-50) advanced to the finals. The top 14 qualifiers receive one bye.
