Surasak Manuwong, Kristel Oh hold on to lead in Singapore International Open qualifying

2009KSASurasakManuwong.jpg2010SINOpenTimMack.jpgSurasak Manuwong (pictured left), Thailand, and Kristel Oh, Singapore sit atop the men's and women's Open Masters scoreboard as the qualifying of the 43rd Singapore International Open has reached the final qualifying day at Orchid Bowl at Orchid Country Club in Singapore.

Manuwong's 1061 total, an average of 265.25, is still the sole 4-game series over 1000 in both men's and women's division. The top 3 in the men's Local Pool and Overseas Pool remained unchallenged on Tuesday.

Manuwong has a huge 91-pin lead over second-placed Aaron Kong, Malaysia, with 970, with Somjed Kusonpithak, Thailand, in third at 962. Pro bowler Tim Mack (right), United States, the sole American in the field, slipped one spot to 12th with 909.

Howard Saw continued to lead the Local Pool with 956 and an average of 239.00, with Justin Lim in second place with 950 and Sam Goh in third with 939.

Kristel Oh remained atop the women's Local Pool with 963 or an average of 240.75. Cherie Tan remained in second place with 937. New Hui Fen leaped two spots into third place after improving her 4-game total to 927.

Her fellow countrywoman Zandra Aziela (right) slipped to second place with 931 and is followed by Li Hsiao Ping, Chinese Taipei, with 910.

Qualifying ends on Thursday, June 3rd, with the final squad schedule for 12 a.m. local time immediately followed by the men's Desperado Squad.

A total of 42 men (39 qualifiers plus the top 3 from the desperado squad) and 30 women including defending champions Shaker Al-Hassan, UAE, and Sharon Koh, Malaysia, will advance to the Masters Finals.

Men and women will bowl two 8-game blocks to determine the top 4 players, who will advance to the stepladder finals. The winner of the opening match between the 2md, 3rd and 4th seed earns the right to bowl the No. 1 seed for the title. The No. 1 seed must be defeated twice to win the title.

In addition to the prize money, S$5,000 will be shared equally amongst the bowlers who roll a perfect game in qualifying, in the Masters finals and in the stepladder finals.
