Lynda Barnes begins pulling away in women's QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

     Team USA's Lynda Barnes punished the women's field in the 41st QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with a 255,71 average through the third round at Gladiator Bowling Center, more than twenty-five pins higher than her next closest competitor.

    Barnes had games of 279, 259, 246, 267, 247 and 233 to overtake the lead after 18 games with 4284 pinfall total and an average of 238,00. Second round leader Wendy Chai, Malaysia, slipped to second with 4049 behind a 1283 series today. First round leader Helen Johnsson remained in third with 4021. The Swede toppled 1317 pins in the second squad including high games of 245, 236 and 232.

     England's Fiona Banks (pictured) held on to the fourth place with 3669 but narrowed the gap to Johnsson to 52 pins thanks to a 1341. Nadia Aqeel of Bahrain is next with 3862, with Norwegian Ann Louise Haugen in sixth. The younger sister of former World Cup champion Kim Asbjörn Haugen (Thailand, 2001) has felled 3829 pins.

    Multiple French champion Isabelle Saldjian moved into the top 8 with a 1263 series. The World Games champion in Mixed Doubles totaled 3758 pins. Rounding out the top 10 is Australia's Clair Johnston who shot the highest series of 1376 - besides of Lynda Barnes, who played in her own class today. The Aussie has 3709 or an average of 206,06.

    With the final six-game block to go on Thursday, Olga Tarasova of the Ukraine currently holds the 24th and final qualifying spot with 3442 and an average of 191,22.

    Lynda Barnes punishes the field with a 255 average on day three

     Lynda Barnes got out of the gates fast with a 279 in game one. After a 259 in game two, Barnes fired a 246 in game three to improve her 771 three-game high from yesterday by 13 pins (784 or a 261,33 average).

    "I matched up well and had a good idea what was happening on the lanes", said former PWBA champion afterwards. "When the transition happened - for me it's at the end of game three or the beginning of game four, I knew what to do."

    The reigning U.S. National Amateur champion fired a 267-game in game four for a 1051 series (262,75 average), a score that many of the women from 68 countries would like to have after six games. She finished off with a 247 in game five (1298/259,60) and a 233 in game six (1531/255,17) to take the overall lead with 4284 18-game total and an average of 238,00.

    "It was just fun" said Barnes. But there is still room to improve."

    With the 35 players of Squad B having completed the third of four six-game blocks before the cut to the top 24 players, Wendy Chai of Malaysia is 235 pins behind Barnes in second place with 4049, a 224,94 average. Fiona Banks of England narrowed the gap behind a 1341-series today. Banks has totaled 3669 pins, an average of 220,50.

    Players ranked 4-8, Nadia Aqeel, Ann Louise Haugen, Isabelle Saldjian, Marieke de Jong and Patricia Schwarz had series between 1263 and 1297 today.
