Special "Champions Squad Regional" added to TOC lineup

A special "Champions Squad Regional" has been added to the PBA Tournament of Champions lineup as an optional event. For an additional $250 entry fee, bowlers entered in the Champions Field (limited to PBA regional, Senior Tour and Women's Series title winners) will use the scores bowled during their 14-game qualifying event to compete for a $4,000 first prize (based on 96 entries) and a PBA Regional title.
Bowlers in the Champions Field will be able to enter the optional event on-site. Two seven-game Champions Field qualifying rounds are scheduled for Monday, April 8.

Tickets are now available to the public for the PBA Hall of Fame induction dinner which will be held as part of the PBA Tournament of Champions at Red Rock Resort next week. The Hall of Fame dinner, featuring the inductions of 16-time PBA Tour champion Jason Couch (pictured right) of Clermont, Fla., and 11-time PBA Senior Tour star Gene Stus (left) of Taylor, Mich., is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Red Rock.

Chris Warren (pictured left) of Grants Pass, Ore., continued his domination in the PBA Northwest Region, defeating Bob Davidson of Seattle, 256-230, to win the Northwest Region Pawn Brokers Cheetah Open at Bowl Arena in Ft. Lewis, Wash., on Sunday, April 1 – opening day for the 2012-13 season for regional players.
Warren, who won a Northwest Region-record seven titles during the 2011-12 season, also picked up his 35th career regional title and a $2,000 prize.
Tony Reyes (right) of San Bruno, Calif., was eliminated in the Round of 8 in Ft. Lewis, but he earned a paid entry into the 2012 PBA World Series of Bowling as high finisher among players who entered the optional Northwest Region Cheetah Open "animal pattern" competition.
In the companion Senior Open, Hugh Miller (left) of Mercer Island, Wash., defeated Trent Zabelle of Beaverton, Ore., 249-172, for his third Northwest Region senior title. He also earned $1,200.
The Pawn Brokers Cheetah Open also included a Teen Masters qualifier. Heather Lundgren of Colbert, Wash., qualified in the girls' high school division with a score of 1,370 for 8 games. In the boys' high school division, Kyle Nichols of Blaine, Wash., set the pace with a score of 1,479 for the 8 games. Both qualified for the Teen Masters national finals which will be held July 8-12 in Cleveland, Ohio.
The weekend's only other regional event was in Carpentersville, Ill., where Mitch Jabczenski (right) of Novi, Mich., defeated Todd Kjell of Roscoe, Ill., 197-192, to win the joint PBA Midwest/Central Region Liberty Lanes Senior Open sponsored by Allstate Insurance on Sunday. The title was Jabczenski's ninth in PBA Regional competition. He earned $1,500 along with his title.
Over the April 6-8 weekend, South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas will host the 1!PBA West Region's Member/Non-Member Doubles plus a West Region Non-Champions event. The PBA Southwest returns to action with the Del-Mar Lanes Etonic Challenge for non-champions in Houston, Texas.

PBA Commissioner Tom Clark (pictured) was guest speaker at the annual NAIA Invitational awards banquet Friday, March 30, in Indianapolis. The NAIA national men's and women's finals were being held at Western Bowl while the Xtra Frame Dick Weber PBA Playoffs presented by Hammer were underway at Woodland Bowl. A number of NAIA student-athletes took advantage of the situation to come over to Woodland Bowl to watch Saturday night's PBA competition.
