Korean boys come from behind to win in Boys Doubles at World Youth Championships

Kim Yeon-Sang and Hwang Dong-Jun (pictured left, l-r), who entered the playoff in the Boys Doubles Finals in fourth and last place, climbed the ladder to win the third gold medal for South Korea in the fourth discipline at the 12th World Youth Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the title match, the Koreans defeated Andrew Koff and Singles champion Marshall Kent (right, l-r) of the United States, 480-402, to wrap up the title. Kim had 244 and Hwang contributed 236. It was the first gold medal in the Boys division for Korea, which swept the gold medals in Girls and Boys Doubles.
To advance to the title match, the Koreans had to weather a strong charge by qualifying leaders Christopher Lam and Elliot Crosby of England (left, l-r), who had to settle for bronze after losing the semifinal match, 421-414.
The third-seeded Americans sidelined second seeded Kim Bolleby and Magnus Johnson Jr. of Sweden (right, r-l) in the other semifinal match, 436-394.
The American boys took the silver medal while Sweden shared the bronze medal with England giving the European Zone its first medals at this Championships.
The World Youth Championships commences with the four-player team event. The first block of three games will be played on Friday and the second block concludes the preliminaries on Saturday. The top 4 teams will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 1st. starting at 3 p.m. local time.
The 12th World Youth Championships takes place at Blu-O Paragon Bowling Center in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 22 - July 3, 2012.
274 girls and boys from record 48 countries, who must not have reached their 21st birthday on January 1, 2012, will compete will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, four-player Team event, All Events and Masters in the ten-day event.
The WTBA patterns "Mexico City" and "Atlanta" will be used in Bangkok. The 45-foot Mexico City pattern is the second-longest of the twelve WTBA certified lane pattern (four short, four medium and four long). With a length of 38 feet, the Atlanta pattern is the shortest of the four medium pattern.
Singles is being played on "Mexico City" and Doubles will be contested on "Atlanta", while the Team event will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). The Masters will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the medium pattern and the other lane dressed with the long pattern).
The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meets No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the World Youth Champion, while the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
