Ryan Ciminelli overtakes qualifying lead at World Bowling Tour Thailand

    201112PBARyanCiminelli.jpg201112PBASeanRash.jpgPBA champion Ryan Ciminelli (pictured left), United States, took over the qualifying lead in the World Bowling Tour Thailand event Thursday at Blu-O-Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand. Ciminelli, who finished third in Thailand last year, used three-game series of 743, 730 and 714 to move to the top of the leaderboard with 2187 and an average of 243.

    Reigning PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash (right), United States, who improved his series to 2171 Thursday slipped to second place and was followed by early leader Yannaphon Larp-apharat of Thailand in third place with 2146.

Swedish youth international Kim Bolleby (left) leaped into sixth place with 2082. Rounding out the top seven who will receive three byes for the finals, was Annop Arromsaranon of Thailand with 2075,

    Defending champion Jason Belmonte (right) of Australia is currently in 19th place with 215.67. Among the PBA bowlers, who took to the lanes at Blu-O-Paragon bowling center, were last year's runner-up Mike Fagan (below left), Rhino Page (below right), Chris Loschetter and Bill O'Neill as well as Diandra Asbaty and Missy Parkin, all United States.

    201112PBAMikeFagan.jpg201112PBARhinoPage.jpgThe World Bowling Tour Thailand 2012 will be held from Sept. 24 through Oct. 1, 2012 at Blu-O-Paragon bowling center in Bangkok, Thailand. The tournament is the 10th stop of the 2012 World Bowling Tour. and offers total prize fund of 4.215 million Baht or approx. 132,000 USD with 1 million Baht ($32,250) going to the winner and 500.000 Baht to the runner-up.

    The World Bowling Tour Thailand 2012 will also award a PBA Tour title if won by PBA member or a PBA International member.

    Qualifying (Three highest three-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Tuesday, Sept. 25 through Saturday, Sept. 30 with the last squad scheduled for 9 p.m. local time. Qualifying concludes with the Desperado Squad scheduled for 10 p.m. Women receive eight pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament.

    Total 42 players will advance to the second round including
    • the top 7 qualifiers (receive two byes),
    • the next two local bowlers (8th receives two byes, 9th gets one bye),
    • the next 29 players in the overall standings seeded 10-38 (10-24 receive one bye)
    • plus another two locals seeded 39-40 and
    • the top 2 of the Desperado Squad seeded 41-42.
    Round 2, 3 and 4 each feature a six-game series from scratch. Ties in Round 1-4 will be broken by a one-ball roll-off. The field will be trimmed to 34, 20 and eight players, who will determine the champion in the TV stepladder final.

    After the Bahamas Classic has been postponed and the Daejeon International Open 2012 in Korea has lost its WBT status, the 2012 World Bowling Tour consists of 12 tournaments in America, Asia, Europe and Australia - five in the United States and one each in Australia, Austria, Finland, France, Japan, Kuwait and Thailand.

    Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points earned in 2012 will be added to points earned in 2011 to determine the points list.

    The top three men and top three women will be invited to compete in the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the Professional Bowlers Association at the end of 2012 featuring total prize fund of $70,000.
