Ronnie Sparks leads 10 qualifiers advancing into PBA Detroit Winter Swing

    Four-event Winter Swing, PBA League get underway Tuesday at Thunderbowl Lanes

    201213PBATourLogo_small.jpgRonnie Sparks Jr. of Ecorse, Mich., averaged 244.62 Saturday to lead the 10 players who advanced from the eight-game Pro Tournament Qualifier into the main event of the Professional Bowlers Association Detroit Winter Swing, which gets underway Tuesday at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich.

    Sparks, with an eight-game total of 1,957 pins, will join the Detroit Winter Swing field of 135 bowlers along with Brian Gunn, Chicago, 1,895 pins; Keith Caldwell, Detroit, 1,867; Justin Neiman, Warren, Mich., 1,865; Chad Reiffer, Kentwood, Mich., 1,850; Todd Book, Russells Point, Ohio, 1,834; Mark Milasinovich, Macomb, Mich., 1,828; B.J. Moore III, Apex, N.C., 1,812; Bo Goergen, Sanford, Mich., 1,804, and Michael Calhoun, Wyandotte, Mich., 1,793.

    A field of 93 bowlers entered the Pro Tournament Qualifier. The 10 who advanced will complete the field of 135 players who will bowl the Carmen Salvino Classic, Mark Roth Classic, Don Carter Classic and Earl Anthony PBA Players Championship qualifying events Tuesday through Friday.

    Among the 135 will be 40 members of the five-player, eight-team PBA League, who will use their qualifying scores for the inaugural rounds of PBA League competition. All qualifying and match play rounds Tuesday through Friday will be covered live on PBA's exclusive online bowling channel, Xtra Frame.
