Emirati Mahmoud Al-Attar shoots big game to win Dubai International Open from top seed

    2013DubaiOpenMahmoudAlAttar.jpgMahmoud Al-Attar (pictured left) of United Arab Emirates defeated Khaled Al-Dubyyan of Kuwait in the championship match of the Dubai International Open Bowling Tournament 2013 Saturday at Dubai International Bowling Center in Al Mamzar en route to win his first international title and 60.000 Dirham or approx. US$16,330.

    Al-Attar, who earned the No. 1 seed after leading the penultimate round of the finals with an average of 236.63 for eight games, had to sit and wait for his opponent.

    2013DubaiOpenKhaledAlDubyyan.jpg In the opening three-player shoot-out match Al-Dubyyan (right), seeded third, eliminated his compatriot, No. 3 seed Rakan Al-Amiri and No. 5 seed Sithiphol Kunaksorn of Thailand, 234-214-177.

    2013DubaiOpenHussainAlSuwaidi.jpgThe 2006 World Ranking Masters winner went on to defeat UAE's Hussain Al-Suwaidi (left), who rolled a 300 game in Round Two en route to earn the No. 2 seed, 199-165.

    In the title, Al-Dubyyan held a 16-pin lead after the first five frames, but Al-Attar went off the sheet with a seven-bagger to cruise to victory.

    Al-Dubyyan received 30,000 Dirham for second place, Al-Suwaidi earned 15,000 for third and Al-Amiri and Kunaksorn pocketed 10,000 and 7,000 for fourth and fifth place, respectively.

    The tournament drew 85 bowlers from 15 countries. The top 16 Asian bowlers advance to the Dubai leg of the 2013 Asian Bowling Federation Tour on Sunday.
