Jimmy Wogel wins qualifying in 34th AIK International Tournament 2014

    The top 62 players plus another 30 wild cards advance to the finals; Kim Ojala hits the cut for 62nd place with 1295 (215.83 average); Pontus Andersson shoots the first 300 game to advance thru Turbo Game 6; Jesse Kallio averages 224.71 in Semifinals to lead the top 12 into Monday's Finals

    The top of the leaderboard in the 34th AIK International Tournament 2014 remained unchanged on Sunday though the first 300 game of the tournament was rolled at Bowl-O-Rama in Stockholm, Sweden.

    Jimmy Wogel of Tyresö BK, who posted a 1479 six-game series in the third of 15 qualifying squads on December 30, won the qualifying with an average of 246.50.

    Tommy Wendel of Stureby BK and Team Pergamon's Robert Andersson, who also bowled in Squad 3, finished in second and third place with 1452 and 1439, respectively.

Hultin averaged 225 for her six games and added 48 pins handicap to her 1350 pinfall for 1398 total.

    Magnus Johnson Jr. topped Squad 13 on Sunday morning with 1379 to make the first cut in eight place. Simon Nilsson (right) of BK Nobel led the last squad with 1309, good for 47th place overall.

    Kim Ojala of Team Pergamon hit the cut for 62nd place with 1295 and an average of 215.83. The top 62 qualifiers were joined by another 30 players, who survived the cut thru various categories.

    Finn Jesse Kallio (right) of bowling club Giants averaged 224.71 for seven games to the lead the top 12 players after Semifinal Round 2 into Monday's Finals.

    Among those, who were eliminated in the Semifinals were PBA champions Tom Hess, Chris Loschetter and Ronnie Russell.

    2014AIKLogo_small.jpg The 34th AIK International Tournament runs from Dec. 26, 2013 through Jan. 6, 2014 at Bowl-o-Rama, a 28-laner in Stockholm, Sweden, and offers total prize fund of 309.500 Swedish Kronor or approximately 34.660 Euro with 60.000 SEK (€6,720) going to winner, 30.000 SEK to the runner-up and 20.000 SEK and 15.000 SEK to the third and fourth place finishers, respectively.

    Qualifying (six games; unlimited re-entries) started on Dec 26 and runs through Sunday, Jan. 5 with the final qualifying squad starting a 4 p.m. CET. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game.

    Total 92 players advance with 36 of whom going directly to Final Round 1 on Sunday including the top 30 qualifiers, players 1-4 from the Early Bird squads and the top player each from Turbo 1 (qualifying game #5) and Turbo 2 (qualifying game #6).

    56 players including qualifiers 31-62 and another 24 players who qualify through various "gateways" (Ladies, Juniors, 60 & over, 50 & over, dynamic handicap, Turbo 1 and Turbo 2) bowl four games (2+2) scratch in Semifinal Round 1 starting on Sunday evening, Jan. 5.

    The top 24 advance to Semifinal Round 2 to bowl another three games with the four-game total of Round 1 being carried over. The top 12 players join the 36 players, who received a bye, in Final Round 1 starting Monday morning Jan. 6.

    Those 48 bowlers bowl six games scratch to cut to the top 24 bowlers who bowl further four games after which a cut to the top 10 is made. Pins carry over after each round.

    The remaining 10 players determine the champion in nine games round robin match play plus one game position round. During match play, players receive 20 bonus pins for winning a match and 10 pins each in the event of a tie. No bonus pins is given in the position round. The winner is the player with the highest total after 20 games including handicap and bonus.
