Gaetan Mouveraux, Polina Kharlamova take over lead in Division 1 at BBWZ

Qualifying in the International Youth Tournament concludes Saturday in Almere, Netherlands

Gaetan Mouvereaux (pictured left) from France and Polina Kharlamova of Russia took over the lead in boys and girls Division 1 at the Friday at the 14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament in Almere, Netherlands.

The Youth Euro Trophy (YET) event features 154 youth bowlers from Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Netherlands, Russia, Scotland and Ukraine, who will bowl for titles in nine divisions (by age and average).

Mouveraux had games of 178, 235, 244, 212, 221, 246 and 225 to shoot to the top of the Boys 1 leaderboard with 1561 total, an average of 223 for seven games. Giancarlo Ragusa (above right) of Belgium was 29 pins behind to move into second place with 1532. Previous leader Dennis van den Berg, Netherlands, slipped to third with 1487.

Kharlamova (left) used games of 223, 183, 171, 184, 235, 226 and 202 for 1427, an average of 203.86, to set the pace in Girls 1. Jennifer Lofty of England was close behind with 1404 to move into second place with Ksenia Kulikova of Russia in third on 1371.

Denise Blankenzee (right), Netherlands, who won one of the early squads last weekend with 1202, improved her high series by 114 pins to shoot into the lead in Girls 2 with 1316 or an average of 188.

Previous leader Jolien Thys of Belgium slipped to second place with 1271 and is followed by Rachel Wells, Scotland, who took over third place with 1266.

Dutch Joshua Udink averaged 199 to leap into second place in Boys 2 with 1393, just 31 pins behind division leader Erik Holvast, Netherlands, who held on to the lead with 1424 (203.43). Dane Kasper Loft Farebaek slipped one spot to third with 1384.

Ukrainian youth bowlers Kyrylo Gayduk and Aleksandr Nechipaev sit atop Boys 3 and 4. Gayduk toppled 1121 pins (186.83 average) to lead an otherwise all-Dutch Division 3, while Nechipaev, with a score of 1107, holds a 10-pin lead over compatriot Vladimir Yakovlev.

On the girls' side, Dutch "meisjes" Céline Ubert and Maroucha Stam lead Division 3 and 4 with 1030 and 920, respectively. Vince van der Loo, Netherlands, continued to lead the Mixed Division with 868.

Qualifying concludes on Saturday, February 15, with squads at 9 a.m. & noon and 1 & 4 p.m. CET.

The 14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament runs from February 1-16 at Bowling Almere, a 24-laner in Almere, Netherland. The event is part of the Youth Euro Trophy (YET) and will be contested on a 40-ft. lane conditioning pattern

with 21.56ml volume oil total.

Boys and girls at the age of 21 and under and 18 and under will be split into four average divisions. There is also one mixed division for boys and girls at the age of 12 years and younger.

Boys and girls in Divisions 1 & 2 roll seven games of qualifying. All other divisions feature six games. The following players will advance the semifinals:

Division 1: Top 11 boys and top 5 girls
Division 2: Top 12 boys and top 10 girls
Division 3: Top 9 boys and top 8 girls
Division 4: Top 8 boys and top 3 girls
Mixed Division 1: Top 5

All qualifying pinfall will be carried forward. Divisions 1 & 2 bowlers roll additional four games to cut for the top 6 boys and the top 4 girls (Division 1) and the top 6 boys and the top 6 girls (Division 2) who will determine the champions in the round robin match play.

Division 2 boys and girls will play a five-game round starting at scratch. Players receive 20 bonus for a win and 10 for a tie. Additional bonus will be given for games from 225-249 (5 bonus), 250-274 (10 bonus) and 275+ (15 bonus).

Division 1 boys and girls will be combined into one mixed group to roll nine games of round robin. The same bonus and scoring rules as in Division 2 apply. The player with the highest pinfall total including all bonus pins will be declared the winner.

The players who survived the qualifying in Divisions 3 & 4 and the Mixed Division will determine the champions in a final round over five games. The player with the highest 11-game total including handicap (Mixed Division) will be declared the winner.
