Mohamed Janahi, Mennat Soltan take different routes to the title in 16th Sinai Open

Mohamed Janahi of Bahrain (pictured left) and Egypt's Mennat Soltan (right) won the men's and women's stepladder finals to claim the titles in the 16th Sinai International Open Bowling Tournament, which concluded Wednesday at the International Bowling Center in Cairo, Egypt.
Janahi, the men's No. 1 seed, captured his first major international title with a narrow victory over Mustafa Al Mousawi defeating the 15-year-old Kuwaiti, 226-225, in the title match.
Finishing the match first, Al Mousawi had the opportunity to shut out the Bahraini but failed to convert a two-pin spare on his fill ball. Janahi took full advantage and struck out in his 10th frame for a one-pin victory.
"It has been long overdue," said the 37-year-old Bahraini national team member (right). "I've trained hard in preparation for next week's GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) championship but I felt I needed a competition to see how well I've prepared.
"I'm really glad to come here and win my first-ever international title. I hope I can carry this form and confidence into the GCC Championships next week in Bahrain," added the champion, who picked up US$7,500 top prize.
Al Mousawi earned $3,500 for second place. The No. 4 seed ousted his compatriots Yaqoub Al Shatti, 222-214, and Jassim Darwish, 236-206, to advance to the title match. Darwish and Al Shatti pocketed $2,500 and $2,000 for third and fourth place, respectively.
On the women's side, third-seeded Mennat Soltan (left) won three consecutive matches to claim her second Sinai Open title after 2010. In the title match, Soltan had to defeat top-seeded Hanadi Al Muzail of Kuwait twice to win the title. And that was exactly what she did defeating Al Muzail, 196-184 and 169-162.
On her way to the title match, Soltan eliminated No. 4 seed, Sara Gamal, Egypt, 216-168, and then No. 2 seed Muna Khosho of Iraq, 216-184.
Soltan pocketed $2,000 for the victory. Al Muzail received $1,200 for second place while Khosho and Gamal took home $600 and $500 for third and fourth place, respectively.
The top 16 Asian men qualified for the fourth tournament of the 2014 ABF Tour, which will be held at the International Bowling Center on May 1st.
