Victoria Chin, Hussain Al-Suwaidi capture the titles in 40th Hong Kong International Open

    Top-seeded Chin wins women's title match against Sharon Limansantoso; Al-Suwaidi defeats top-seeded Yeri Ramadona twice to win the men's title

    Chin finished Round 1 in third place and took the No. 1 seed for the six-player stepladder finals averaging 208 for ten games in Round 2. In the title match, Chin defeated No. 2 Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia, 213-209, to seal the victory and to follow in the footprints of her compatriot Esther Cheah. The two-time defending women's champion was sidelined in Round 1.

Armein earned a spot in the semis with an easy 193-151-135 win against No. 4 Gloria Yung and No. 6 Novie Phang, Indonesia.

    Chin took home 26,000 Hong Kong Dollar or approximately 3,350 U.S. Dollar for the victory. Limansantoso earned $14,000 for second place, Voukolos received $7,000, and Armein, Yung and Phang garnered 3,500, 2,500 and $1,800, respectively, for fourth, fifth and sixth place.

    Al-Suwaidi, who was trying to improve on a third-place finish from last year, barely survived Round 1 taking the 18th and last spot to advance with 1914 10-game total. He averaged 215.5 in the second round to earn the No. 3 seed for the finals.

    2014HKGOpenRockyHui.jpg2014HKGOpenYeriRamadona.jpgIn the opening shootout match, No. 5 Wu Siu Hong (219), Hong Kong, topped No. 4 Hardy Rachmadian (187), Indonesia, and No. 6 Eric Tseng (174), Hong Kong, to meet Al-Suwaidi and second-seeded Rocky Hui (left), Hong Kong, in the semis.

    Al-Suwaidi posted a 223 game to beat Hui (184) and Siu Hong (201) and to earn the right to bowl top-seeded Yeri Ramadona (right), Indonesia, for the title. Ramadona had the advantage that Al-Suwaidi had to beat him twice to win the title.

    The long-time member of the UAE national team won a low-scoring first game, 188-162, to force the decider in which he flew past the Indonesian, 232-168, to cruise to the men's title.

    Al-Suwaidi pocketed 55,000 Hong Kong Dollar or approximately 7,100 U.S. Dollar for the win. Ramadona was consoled with $22,000. Hui got $14,000 for third place. Siu Hong took $7,000 for fourth place and Rachmadian and Tseng received $5,000 and $4,000 for fifth and sixth place, resp.

    The top 16 Asian men and top 16 Asian women qualified for the fifth leg of the 2014 Asian Bowling Federation Tour, to be held June 16 at SCAA Bowling Center in Hong Kong, China.
