Dane Frederik Øhrgaard and Sara Gamal (pictured above with the trophies) from the host country Egypt topped their opponents in the championship matches in two-games, total pins format to capture the men's and women's title in the 17th Sinai International Open Thursday at International Bowling Center in Cairo.
In a high-scoring men's finale, Øhrgaard struck on all but one shot in the first nine frames of game one only to fall two pins behind Yousef Al-Jaber (right; 245-247) as the Qatari posted three turkeys including three strikes in the 10th frame while the Dame finished with spare-strike.

The World Champion in Trio rebounded with a 257-231 win in game two to seal the victory, 502-478, and to pocket the $7,500 top prize. Al-Jaber's 244.5 average in the playoffs was not enough and had to settle for second place worth $3,500.
In the semifinals, Al-Jaber stunned PBA champion Brad Angelo (left), United States, 500-448, while Øhrgaard edged World Youth champion Pontus Andersson (right), Sweden, 439-435. In roll-off for 3rd and 4th place Angelo topped Andersson, 452-432. Angelo received $2,500 for third place and Andersson took home $2,000 for fourth place.

In the women's finale, Joline Persson Planefors (left) of Sweden opened in the final frame of game one to give Gamal a slim two-pin lead (192-190). The Egyptian (right) carried the momentum into the second game and wrapped up the title with a 249-216 win for a 441-406 victory.
Gamal, who earned $2,000, followed in the footprints of her fellow countrywoman Mennat Soltan, who won the women's title in 2014 and 2010. Gamal ousted the defending champion in the semifinal, 433-399.

Persson Planefors, who received $1,200 for second place, topped the third Egyptian, Aliaa Ismail (left), in the other semifinal match, 449-412. Ismail rebounded with a 439-377 win against Soltan to take third place, worth $600. Soltan (right) garnered $500 for fourth place.
