11/14/15
The 51st QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup kicked off on Saturday afternoon, November 14, with the Opening Ceremonies and the Welcome Reception at "Sam's Town Live" ballroom inside Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Two-time World Cup champion Shannon Pluhowsky (pictured right with her 17-year-old team mate, Kamron Doyle) took the players' oath, while the Technical Official's oath was recited by Southern Nevada USBC President, Vern Vernazzaro.
Pictured above with the World Cup trophies are from left to right: Martin Faba, president of the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), Emanuele Govoni, CEO of QubicaAMF Worldwide, Team USA's Doyle and Pluhowsky and Bernard Gibbons, who emceed the Opening Ceremonies.
Prior to the opening, 156 bowlers from 88 countries, 86 men and 70 women, had 1 and a half hours of practice before all athletes and the team managers met for a briefing at 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).
The Opening Ceremonies for the 51st edition of tenpin bowling's largest event in terms of number of countries competing took place from 4 to 5 p.m. and were followed by the traditional Welcome Reception.
Players and guest had the opportunity to take photos with a Las Vegas show girl. Pictured here is Erik Garder, team manager and former Norwegian standout, whose highest finish in the World Cup was a fifth place in Mexico City in 1983. Click image to enlarge.
It marks the third time in the history of the Bowling World Cup that the tournament visits the United States after 1981 in New York and 1999 in Las Vegas, also at Sam's Town.
Real action starts on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. PST with the first qualifying round.

The 32-game pinfall totals will determine the 8 players for the round-robin match-play portion of the tournament, after which the top three will advance to the stepladder finals based on their 40-game totals.
The United States Bowling Congress will provide live streaming on BowlTV.
