Finland takes the lead in Boys Doubles after Squad 1 in 20th European Youth Championships

    2007EYCJuhaMajaPerttuJussilaTonyRanta.jpg Perttu Jussila and Tony Ranta from Finland rolled a 2548 six-game series on Monday morning to take the early lead in the Boys Doubles at the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece, with a 212.33 average.

    2007EYCTonyRanta_small.jpg Ranta (right) led the way with 1343 (248, 203, 234, 191, 229, 238), the highest score of all 36 players thus far, and Jussila added a 1205 series including a 222-game in the third.

    2007EYCOronCohenNatiVolfart.jpg Israel's Nati Volfart and Oron Cohen (pictured left from l-r) finished second with 2474 (206.17). Volfahrt had the second-best 1306 series including a 3-game set of 705 (242, 234 and 229) and Cohen contributed 1168 including high games of 230 and 231.

    Girls All Events leader Janin Ribguth still holds the highest game of the 2007 EYC thus far with 277.

    There are three more squads in the Boys Doubles today at noon, 4 and 8 p.m. local time (GM +2 hours). All duos will roll six games to determine the first champion in the Boys Division. Due to the late finish at approximately 11 p.m. the medal presentation is scheduled for Tuesday at 1.30 p.m.
