If there was a versatility award for performances in Tour Qualifying Rounds at the Professional Bowlers Association World Series of Bowling, Ryan Ciminelli (pictured left) would have a commanding lead after three events.

Ciminelli, of Cheektowaga, N.Y., had a 1,553 seven-game pinfall (221.8 average) to lead a field of 78 players in the PBA Chameleon Championship TQR Sunday afternoon to earn his second top-qualifier honor in three events held at Thunderbowl Lanes over the weekend.

The 23-year-old Ciminelli, whose best finish on Tour is seventh, finished first in the Cheetah Championship TQR on Saturday and second in the Viper Championship TQR earlier Sunday.

Ciminelli attributed his success to his experience at the PBA Tour Trials in June also held at Thunderbowl Lanes.

"I learned a lot about this center and the conditions bowling the (PBA) Tour Trials," said Ciminelli, a former collegiate All-American at Erie Community College. "I found that these three lane conditions would play similarly if I played outside on the lane and didn't get sucked into moving inside.

"I was able to use the same two balls for all three TQRs and the only adjustments I made were grip pressure, speed and tilt. I'm on cloud nine right now."

At the end of the season the top TQR point leader will earn an exemption for the 2010-11 season.

The Chameleon Championship TQR is contested on the PBA Chameleon lane conditioning pattern, one of the five animal-named PBA lane conditions.

The 72-player Chameleon Championship field, which includes 61 exempt players, will bowl two seven-game qualifying rounds on Aug. 19 beginning at 8 a.m., which will determine the 28 players who will compete in single-elimination best-of-seven game matches on Aug. 20, with the Round of 8 starting at 7 p.m.

The Chameleon Championship finals will be taped on Sept. 5 at Thunderbowl Lanes and aired on ESPN Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. Eastern.
