Koreans sweep men's and women's titles in 37th MWA Thailand International Open

    2011THAOpenLeeIkKyu2.jpgThe men's and women's Open Masters finals of the 37th MWA Thailand International Open Sunday at S.F. Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Bangkok, Thailand, were an all-Korean affair.

    In the men's final, No. 1 seed Lee Ik-Kyu (pictured left) topped Koo Seong-Hoi, seeded second, 190-172, to wrap up the title. Third place went to another Korean, Choi Yong-Kyu, seeded third, who fell to Koo in a close semifinal match, 228-227.

    The champion received the 300,000 Baht (approx. $10,000) top prize. Koo earned 150,000 Baht for second place and garnered 80,000 Baht for third,

    2011THAOpenLeeNaYoung2.jpgIn the women's championship match top seeded Lee Na-Young (right) flew past No. 2 Kim Ji-Hye, 233-148, to capture the title. Kim held off local favorite Yanee Saebae, Thailand, seeded fifth, in the semifinal, 221-200.

    Lee earned 100,000 Baht (approx. $3,000) for first place while Kim and Yanee received 50,000 and 25,000 Baht for second and third place, respectively.

    The top 16 Asian men and the top 16 Asian women qualified for the Asian Bowling Federation Tour Thailand leg on Monday.
