Norwegian Svein Åke Ek wins ÖIS International for first career Super Six Tour title

22-year-old Norwegian Svein Åke Ek (pictured left) defeated Mattias Wetterberg, Sweden, in the title match of ÖIS International in Gothenburg, Sweden, 258-179, to claim his first title on the Swedish Super Six Tour.
Ek, seeded first for the four-player stepladder finals received 40.000 Swedish Kronor for the victory (approx. $6,590). Wetterberg was consoled with 25.000 SEK.
"I was comfortable with the long oil pattern (London/44 feet) and it was important for me to be the number one seed for the stepladder as I usually play better when the lane has opened up,” Ek said.
The young Norwegian, who has won his first major international title in the 2010 European Champions Cup in Ankara, Turkey, will be on the Norwegian national team for the Men's European Championships in Munich, Germany, in June.
The third stop of the 2011 Super Six Tour was a battle between Sweden and Norway. Swedish head coach Tomas Leandersson, who has won the second Tour stop in Skövde in last month, defeated Glenn Morten Pedersen, Norway, in the opening match, 233-215, before he fell to Wetterberg in the semifinal, 245-226. Leandersson earned 15.000 SEK for third place while Pedersen pocketed 10.000 SEK for fourth place.
