Lennie Boresch Jr. sets the tone in Round One at PBA Regional Players Championship-East

Lennie Boresch Jr. (pictured left) of Kenosha, Wis., a 24-time Professional Bowlers Association Regional title winner, averaged 241.3 to take the first round lead in the PBA Players Championship-East at Thunderbowl Lanes Saturday.
Boresch, a bowling pro shop operator, held a 56-pin lead over fellow PBA Midwest Region competitor Dave Beres (right) of Waukesha, Wis. Boresch had 1,931 pins for the first eight games while Beres finished with a 1,875 total.
The renamed Regional Players Championship Eastis the first of the PBA's two "major championships" for non-exempt PBA members. Thunderbowl Lanes, the home of the 2009 PBA World Series of Bowling, hosts the traditional PBA Regional major championship with a new "East" designation as part of a revamped tournament structure for regional competitors.
The Regional Players Championship West, which will replace the traditional Regional Players Invitational later in the year, will be the second "major" for regional players..
Both RPC events are open exclusively to non-exempt PBA Tour members, offer $7,500 first prizes and elite berths in the 2012 PBA Tournament of Champions for the winners.
After Sunday’s second eight-game qualifying round, the top 32 players out of the field of 121 will advance to single-elimination match play finals Monday where the winner will be decided.
