Robert Smith, Shayna Ng claim the titles in 37th Hong Kong International Open

Top seeded Robert Smith, United States, and Shayna Ng (l.) of Singapore made quick work of their opponents to win the men's and women's Open Masters titles in the 37th Hong Kong International Open Sunday at Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China.
Smith (pictured left), a seven-time PBA champion and the 200 U.S. Open winner, who lives in Hong Kong, topped No. 3 seed Shaker Al-Hassan, 216-208, to wrap up the men's title. The top seed must be defeated twice to win the title. Smith pocketed 55,000 Hong Kong Dollars, approx. 7,055 U.S. Dollars, for the win.
Al-Hassan rolled a 220 game in the semifinal to easily advance to the title match as No. 2 Annop Arromasranon, Thailand and No. 4 Sayed Al Hashemi managed only 150s.
Al Hashemi edged Hong Kong national team members Eric Tseng and Michael Tsang in the opening match, 223-222-200.
On the women's side top seeded Shayna Ng (pictured right) watched Hong Kong's Zoe Tam putting up two big games to advance to the title match. In the opening match, Tam, seeded fifth fired a 245 game to eliminate compatriot Joey Yip (178) and No. 6 Jazreel Tan (217), Singapore.
Tam carried the momentum into the semifinal and ousted another two Singaporeans, No. 2 Cherie Tan and No. 3 Geraldine Ng, 222-196-180. Tam ran out of gas in the title match. and Ng flew past her opponent to wrap up the title, 227-158. Ng earned HK$26,000 (USD3,355).
The top 16 Asian men and the top 16 Asian women in the 37th Hong Kong International Open Open Masters competition qualified for the Asian Bowling Federation Hong Kong leg on Monday, July 18th.
