Duo ties for lead at USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCCoefficientofFriction.jpgJackie Wyckoff of Campbell, Calif., and her teammates only have a few more days to wait until they know if the score they posted at the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships is enough to take home this year's Scratch Team title.

Wyckoff, a Bowling Writers Association of America board member, helped Coefficient of Friction of Palo Alto, Calif. (pictured left), to games of 1,160, 1,053 and 1,089 for a 3,302 total at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., on June 30. The effort is five pins better than previous leader, Together Once Again of Keller, Texas.

Brittany Hillman led the way for Coefficient of Friction with a 720 series and was joined by Mandy Green (655), Wyckoff, (654), Terri Stynes (639) and Kimberly Power (634).

An additional 40 pins of handicap per game also helped the group into fourth place in Diamond Team with 3,422. Hawaiian Punch - Hana Hou of Kapolei, Hawaii, leads with 3,522.

2012USBCWCTeamPaulos3.jpg"We knew exactly what we needed," said Wyckoff, who made her 14th USBC Women's Championships appearance. "I have to say we were a little more confident in the ninth frame. A couple of us opened in the 10th, and it was getting pretty scary there for a minute. Luckily, our two younger bowlers pulled it out for us, and we're just so excited."

Another team from California finds itself in a similar position as the Ruby Team leader. Team Paulos 3 of Suisun City, Calif. (pictured right), also surged to the top of the leaderboard June 30.

The group bowled games of 823, 922 and 906 for a 2,651 scratch effort and received 125 pins of handicap per game for a 3,026 total. Jungle Kats of Salem, Ore., previously held the top spot with 2,928.

Della Kallenback led Team Paulos 3 with a 680 set and was joined by Coleen Hedspeth (552), Patricia McNally (493), DeAnna Pinger-DeVoto (488) and Nichole Bigham (438).

Duo ties for lead at USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCMeganHillCorinaGrasso.jpgCorina Grasso of Fort Collins, Colo., and Megan Hill of Eastlake, Ohio (pictured, r-l), hit a remarkable stride at the 2012 USBC Women's Championships, and they moved into a tie for the Diamond Doubles lead July 2.

Grasso, a 30-year-old right-hander, led the way with a 769 scratch series, while Hill, 24, added 606 for a 1,375 scratch total. They received an additional 35 pins of handicap per game for a 1,480 final score, tying them with Elysia Current of Ephrata, Pa., and Lindsay Baker of Brigham City, Utah. Current and Baker's score is scratch and also has them at the top of the Scratch Doubles standings.
