200910PBA10TonyReyes.jpgAs a tribute to fallen friend and fellow competitor Tony Reyes (pictured), PBA Tour players will wear a special black-and-silver "TR" emblem during competition in the months ahead. The special TR logo reflects the colors of Reyes' favorite sports team, the Oakland Raiders.

While supplies last, the "TR" patches will be available through the PBA office (and on-site at all PBA tournaments) for $5 each, with all proceeds benefitting Reyes' family. To order, send a check or money order (sorry, no credit cards accepted) to: PBA, c/o TR emblem, 719 Second Ave., Suite 701, Seattle, WA 98104. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery (emblems have just been ordered).

The tribute emblem is just one in a growing number of memorials and benefits to the 38-year-old, one-time PBA Tour champion from San Bruno, Calif., who died as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident on Sept. 28 in northern California.

Services for Reyes are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 7 (memorial service at San Jose State University student union), and Tuesday, Oct. 9 (mass, burial and celebration of life).

Walter Ray Williams Jr. assumes mantle as PBA's winningest player

201112PBAWalterRayWilliams.jpg201112PBAPeteWeber.jpgOverlooked in the wake of his PBA Senior Player of the Year campaign was the fact that Walter Ray Williams Jr. (left) has overtaken Pete Weber (right) as the PBA's overall winningest player. With his most recent win in a PBA South Region senior event in Canton, Ga., Williams now has a grand total of 85 PBA titles: 47 in PBA Tour competition (the all-time record), four PBA Senior titles, 31 standard PBA Regional titles and three PBA Senior Regional titles.

Weber, despite recording his first win as a senior (see report in PBA Regional Roundup) in Sunday's PBA Midwest Region St. Clair Bowl Senior Open, now has 84 total titles: 36 PBA Tour titles, 47 standard PBA Regional titles (the PBA record), and one PBA Senior Regional win.

PBA Regional Roundup: PJ Haggerty records emotional victory in Reno

2010EBT05PJHaggerty.jpgPJ Haggerty (left) of Roseville, Calif., posted a 10-4-2 match play record and a 24-game total of 6,127 pins Sunday at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., for the most emotional victory in his career in the PBA West/Northwest Regions Sands Regency Casino Open presented by Roto Grip.

"This is hands down the most special title I will ever win," Haggerty said in dedicating his title to his close friend and fellow competitor, Tony Reyes, who died of injuries sustained in a traffic accident two days earlier in northern California.

Haggerty, who earned $2,000 along with his fifth regional title, defeated Jeff Frankos of Daly City, Calif., Frankos had a 12-4 match play record and 6,076 pins for 24 games, including match play bonus pins.

In a companion non-champions event held on Friday at the National Bowling Stadium, Tetsuya Kobayashi of Japan, defeated Seth Montgomery of Laton, Calif., 233-198, to win the Sands Regency Casino Non-Champions Open.

2012TeamUSATrialsAJJohnson.jpgThe Non-Champions Open and finals of the Sands Regency Casino Open were webcast live on PBA's Xtra Frame online bowling channel.

In Fairview Heights, Ill., amateur A.J. Johnson (right) of Oswego, Ill., defeated Tom Hess of Urbandale, Iowa., 243-216, to win the PBA Midwest Region's St. Clair Bowl Open at St. Clair Bowl Sunday while PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber of St. Ann, Mo., won his first PBA Senior Regional title in a companion event for players ages 50 and older.

Johnson, a member of Team USA and member of the McKendree University bowling team, recorded his first PBA Regional win and earned $2,100 for his SMART scholarship fund, but he doesn't get credit for a PBA title because he is a non-member.

2010PBASKentWagner.jpgIn the senior event, Weber earned $1,600 when he defeated top qualifier Greg Shields of Independence, Mo., 235-180. Weber defeated Dale Traber of Cedarburg, Wis., 223-203, in the semifinal match to advance to the title match.

In Lewisburg, W.Va., Kent Wagner (left) of Palmetto, Fla., defeated Dale Csuhta of Wadsworth, Ohio, 215-212, to win the PBA Central/East/South Tri-Regional Roger Boone Memorial Senior Classic presented by Fritz's Pharmacy at Greenbrier Bowling Center on Sunday. The title was Wagner's 22nd career regional title. He also earned $1,500.

As the PBA closes in on the start of PBA World Series of Bowling IV at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nov. 2-11, competition heats up across the PBA Regional landscape.

The Oct. 5-7 weekend schedule includes a joint PBA West/Northwest Ken and Kathy Fowler Auto Centers Regular/Senior Doubles event at Yokayo Lanes in Ukiah, Calif., and the PBA Central Region will hold the Hoosier Park Racing and Casino Open at Cooper's Sport Bowl in Anderson, Ind.

The PBA Southwest and Midwest Regions will hold joint Junction City Senior Scorpion and Chameleon Open one-day events at Junction City (Kan.) Bowl while the non-senior players will compete in the Barney's Open at Enterprise Park Lanes in Springfield, Mo.

The Oct. 12-14 schedule includes the PBA South Region NAS Jacksonville (Fla.) Open at NAS Freedom Lanes; the Midwest Region Qubica Open at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.; the PBA Southwest Region Young & Pratt Austin (Texas) Open at Dart Bowl, and the PBA West/Northwest Regions Red Bluff Open presented by DV8 at Lariat Bowl in Red Bluff, Calif.

Two events are on top over the Oct. 19-20 weekend: the PBA Southwest Region Dallas Open presented by Dallas Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons at AMF Richardson Lanes, and the PBA South Region Franklin (Va.) Open at Franklin Bowling Center.

Pre-WSOB IV competition over the Oct. 26-28 weekend features the PBA East Region's annual Dom DiCicco Memorial Senior Open at Glassboro (N.J.) Bowling and Entertainment; joint one-day PBA Midwest/Central Region Lancer Lanes Senior Chameleon and Viper Open events in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the standard Central/Midwest Region Star Lanes Classic presented by Sysco Food Services of Indianapolis in Lafayette, Ind.
