2009 European Bowling Tour #7

Osku Palermaa earns EBT exemption for PBA World Series of Bowling

2009EBT04MartinLarsen.jpgThe title match of the Brunswick Aalborg International, the 7th stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Majors", was a match between two teammates of multiple Swedish team champion Team Pergamon. Martin Larsen (pictured), Sweden, topped Tore Torgersen, Norway, 457 to 449 over two games total pinfall to win his fifth EBT title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.

In the semifinals, Larsen and Torgersen eliminated two Finns on their way to the title match. Larsen, seeded fourth, defeated top seeded Joonas Jähi, 472-424, while #3 Torgersen took revenge for the World Ranking Masters defeat earlier this month, when he ousted #2 Osku Palermaa, also a Team Pergamon member, 458-432.

Torgersen earned 6.000 Euro for second place and the Finns got 3.300 apiece for third and fourth place. Krista Pöllänen Finland, won the women's rankings in Aalborg due to her sixth place finish in the overall standings.

Jähi (Round 4), Palermaa (Round 3) and England's Nicki Ainge (Round 2) rolled 300 games in the finals.

With his 4th place finish, Palermaa will continue to lead the EBT men's rankings. The Aalborg Int'l was the last event which counted toward qualifying for the PBA World Series in August. As the EBT has decided to give the exemption to the highest ranked player in the men's division after seven stops, Osku Palermaa will become the second two-hander after PBA champion and exempt player Jason Belmonte, Australia, who will bowl in the PBA World Series of Bowling.
