KPBA’s Chae Jun Hee wins 18th Sam Ho Korea Cup

Chae Jun Hee of the Korean Professional Bowlers Association captured the title in the 18th Sam Ho Korea Cup 2016, the biggest annual international bowling tournament in South Korea.

In the last match of the TV eliminator finals, Chae (pictured above and right) defeated reigning USBC Masters champion Anthony Simonsen (left), United States, 241-227, to earn the top prize of 40 million Won, approximately 35,792 U.S. Dollar.

Total 64 players survived the qualifying portion, 16 from of the four squads, survived the qualifying to determine the four finalists in single-elimination best-of-three games format.

Monday’s TV eliminator-format finals featured three one-game rounds. All four players bowled the opening game, with the lowest-scoring player being eliminated. In the two rounds to follow, the same “low man out” format applied.

Simonsen, a two-time PBA champion and the youngest player to win a major at 19 years and 39 days, fired a huge 268 game in the opening match to easily advance to the semi-final. He was joined by Chae and Morimoto Kenta (right) of the Japan Professional Bowlers Association, who edged KPBA’s Kim Min Woo, 225-224-223.

In the semi-final, Chae (240) and Simonsen (222) flew past Kenta, who was eliminated with 189.
