    2012 PBA Senior Tour #1

Senior POY Ron Mohr moves into second-round lead in The Villages

2011PBASRonMohr.jpg2010PBASTomCarter.jpgWith the help of a 300 game, reigning Professional Bowlers Association Senior Player of the Year Ron Mohr (pictured left) of Eagle River, Alaska, moved into the second-round lead in the PBA Senior Sun Bowl In The Villages presented by Storm Monday at Spanish Springs Lanes.

Mohr bowled games of 244, 233, 300, 233, 217, 183, 216 and 223 in the second eight-game qualifying round to bring his pinfall total for 16 games to 3,894 (243.3 average).

Mohr holds a 35-pin lead over Tom Carter (right) of Rockford, Ill., in second who had a 3,859 16-game pinfall and is trying for his first Senior Tour title. PBA Hall of Famer Tom Baker (below left) of King, N.C., who held the lead after the first round, slipped to theird place with 3,857.

"The (lane condition) pattern played a little different today," said Mohr, who finished third in last year's Senior Sun Bowl in The Villages. "I got off to a great start the first four games but then I was starting to make some bad adjustments. Overall, I probably scored better than I bowled.

2011PBASTomBaker.jpg"The conditions change each day and we're prepared for that," said Mohr, who will be trying for his eighth career Senior Tour title. "Tomorrow will be another day of challenges. I'll have a good breakfast, a light workout, and then head to the lanes."

In 2011 Mohr won a record-tying four titles and was the leading qualifier twice, No. 2 twice and qualified lower than seventh only one time. He finished out of the top four only one time. He was second twice, third twice, fourth and had a 13-place finish.

The 157-player was cut to the top 32 who advanced to match play Tuesday morning. By qualifying in the top eight, Mohr earned two byes for match play.
