Yannaphon Larp-apharat defends men's title at Macau China International Open

    Chan Weng Sam becomes first Macau women to win the tournament

    2012MACYannaphonLarpapharatChanWengSam.jpgYannaphon Larp-apharat of Thailand and Chan Weng Sam of Macau (pictured left, l-r) captured the Open Masters titles at the Macau China International Open Saturday at COTAI International Bowling Center in Macau, China. It was the second consecutive title in Macau for Yannaphon after his victory in 2011 and the first for Chan.

    For the second consecutive year, Yannaphon bowled Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong for the men's title. Wu, who had to defeat the top seed twice to win the title, flew past his opponent 229-167 to force a decider. Yannaphon rebounded with 263-175 win to seal the victory.

    2012MACYannaphonLarpapharat.jpgThe winner (right) pocketed 70,000 Macanese pataca (MOP) or approx. US$9,000, while Wu took the ferry MOP30,000 richer.

    In the opening shoot-out match No. 6 Hareb Al-Mansoori of UAE (209) eliminated No. 4 Wicky Yeung of Hong Kong (137) and No. 5 Lin Pai-Feng of Chinese Taipei (197) to meet Wu and No. 3 seed, Tim Mack, United States in the semifinal.

    2012MAC;emTop6.jpgWu won the low scoring encounter 182 to 164 (Mack) and 132 (Al-Mansoori). Mack received MOP15,000 for third place, Al-Mansoori got MOP6,000 for fourth while Yeung and Lin pocketed MOP5,000 and MOP4,000 for fifth and sixth place, respectively.

    In the women's division, Chan Weng Sam, a member of the Macau youth national team, became the first Macau women to win the Open Masters title since the inception of the Macau China Open in 2009.

    2012MACChanWengSam.jpgChan (right), who edged Indonesian star Putty Armein for the top seed by 11 pins, defeated No. 3 seed, Hong Hae-Ni of Korea in the championship match, 214-201, to wrap up the title.

    The 18-year-old champion earned MOP40,000 or approx. US$5,100 for the victory. Hong, who easily defeated Armein and Chan Shuk Han of Hong Kong in the semifinal, 241-182-166, received MOP18,000 for second place. Armein took MOP10,000 for third place and Chan got MOP4,000 for fourth place.

    2012MACWomenZop6.jpgIn the opening shoot-out out match, fourth seeded Chan sidelined No. 5 Ji Eun-Sol of Korea and No. 6 Tang Joh Six of Malaysia in a high scoring match, 237-212-209. Ji and Tang garnered MOP3,000 and MOP2,000 for fifth and sixth place, resp.

    More than 350 bowlers from 12 countries participated in the Macau China International Open. The top 16 Asian men and the top 16 Asian women qualified for the Asian Bowling Federation Tour Macau leg on Sunday, June 17.
