Ryan Ciminelli continues to lead in WBT Thailand heading into last qualifying day

    Five PBA champions in the top 7 who will receive two byes for the finals on Sunday

Ciminelli, who targets to win his second PBA title at Blu-O-Paragon bowling center in Bangkok, increased his nine-game total to 2328 pins, an average of 258.67, including high three-game sets of 855, 743 and 730.

    Thailand's No. 1, Yannaphon Larp-apharat (right), who won the gold medal in All Events at the 22nd Asian Championships earlier this month, regained second place with 2294 (254.89). Larp-apharat used the tournament's fourth perfecto for a high series of 846 and added 734 and 714.

Last year's runner-up Mike Fagan (left), who is looking for his second international PBA title of the year after his victory in the Brunswick Euro Challenge in March, was third with 2229 and was followed by current European Bowling Tour point ranking leader and one-time PBA champion Dominic Barrett (right) of England in fourth place with 2225.

    Two-time PBA player of the year Mika Koivuniemi of Finland and reigning PBA player of the year Sean Rash, United States, were in fifth and sixth place with 2213 and 2171, respectively. Rounding out the top 7, who will receive two byes for Sunday's finals was Zulmazran Zulkifli of Malaysia with 2155 or an average of 239.44.

    2012EBT13OskuPalermaa.jpg2012EBT04ChrisBarnes.jpgJust outside the box looking in were another four PBA champions Osku Palermaa, Finland (left; 10th; 2152), newly crowned World Singles Champion Chris Barnes, USA (right; 11th, 2147); defending champion Jason Belmonte, Australia (12th, 2141); and Rhino Page, USA (14th, 2117).

    Annop Arromsaranon of Thailand currently hits the cutoff number to receive one bye (24th place) with 2075 (230.56). Jeong Tae-Hwa of Korea holds the 38th and last place to advance to the finals with 2009 or an average of 223.22.

    The World Bowling Tour Thailand 2012 will be held from Sept. 24 through Oct. 1, 2012 at Blu-O-Paragon bowling center in Bangkok, Thailand. The tournament is the 10th stop of the 2012 World Bowling Tour. and offers total prize fund of 4.215 million Baht or approx. 132,000 USD with 1 million Baht ($32,250) going to the winner and 500.000 Baht to the runner-up.

    The World Bowling Tour Thailand 2012 will also award a PBA Tour title if won by PBA member or a PBA International member.

    Qualifying (Three highest three-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Tuesday, Sept. 25 through Saturday, Sept. 30 with the last squad scheduled for 9 p.m. local time. Qualifying concludes with the Desperado Squad scheduled for 10 p.m. Women receive eight pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament.

    Total 42 players will advance to the second round including
    • the top 7 qualifiers (receive two byes),
    • the next two local bowlers (8th receives two byes, 9th gets one bye),
    • the next 29 players in the overall standings seeded 10-38 (10-24 receive one bye)
    • plus another two locals seeded 39-40 and
    • the top 2 of the Desperado Squad seeded 41-42.
    Round 2, 3 and 4 each feature a six-game series from scratch. Ties in Round 1-4 will be broken by a one-ball roll-off. The field will be trimmed to 34, 20 and eight players, who will determine the champion in the TV stepladder final.

    After the Bahamas Classic has been postponed and the Daejeon International Open 2012 in Korea has lost its WBT status, the 2012 World Bowling Tour consists of 12 tournaments in America, Asia, Europe and Australia - five in the United States and one each in Australia, Austria, Finland, France, Japan, Kuwait and Thailand.

    Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points earned in 2012 will be added to points earned in 2011 to determine the points list.

    The top three men and top three women will be invited to compete in the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the Professional Bowlers Association at the end of 2012 featuring total prize fund of $70,000.
