Kevin Croucher leads top 32 players into match play rounds at PBA Sun Bowl in The Villages

    One-time PBA50 champion averages 251 to lead qualifying after second round; field is cut to top 32 for Tuesday's match play rounds

    2011PBASKevinCroucher.jpgKevin Croucher (pictured left) of Grants Pass, Ore., averaged 251.6 to lead qualifying after the second round Monday in the PBA50 Sun Bowl in The Villages presented by Hammer at Spanish Springs Lanes.

    Croucher, who owns one PBA50 Tour title and five regional titles, finished qualifying with a 4,027 16-game pinfall total after bowling 1,960 in the first round and finishing with games of 279, 298, 227, 258, 257, 258, 255 and 235 for 2,067 in his second eight-game round.

    "Last year I only bowled three tournaments but this year I plan to bowl as many as I can," said the 57-year-old bowling proprietor. "The last three months I've been working on my game pretty extensively to get ready for this season and it looks like it's paying off so far."

    Croucher leads 32 players who advanced to Tuesday's match play rounds. Rounding out the top five were Bo Goergen (left), Sanford, Mich., 3,988; Reigning PBA50 Player of the Year and Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. (right), Ocala, Fla., 3,886; Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli, Venezuela, 3,861, and Don Sylvia, Lady Lake, Fla., 3,856.

    First round leader Mark Williams of Beaumont, Texas, slipped to 17th place with 3,767 behund a 1,769 series Monday.

    Joe Scarborough of Mars Hill, N.C., who bowled the first 900 series in PBA history during first round qualifying on Sunday, failed to advance to match play finishing in a tie for 49th with a 3,573 pinfall.

    The top 32 players from Monday's second round advanced to match play which begins at 9 a.m. ET. After match play, the top four players will advance to the stepladder finals at 7 p.m.
