Valentyn Kucherenko (UKR), Joppe Belmans (BEL) emerge as Boys 1 and 2 qualifying winners

Ukraine's Kyrylo Gayduk, Aleksandr Nechipaev (Boys 3 & 4), Russia's Polina Kharmalova (Girls 1), and Dutch Denise Blankenzee, Celine Ubert, Maroucha Stam (Girls 1-3) and Vince van der Loo (Mixed) remain unchallenged atop the divisional leaderboards

Valentyn Kucherenko (pictured left) averaged 232.14 on the last qualifying day of the 14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament at Bowling Almere in Almere, Netherlands, en route to win the qualifying in Boys Division 1 and to lead the top 12 players into the semifinals.

Kucherenko had games of 217, 237, 279, 166, 215 , 243 and 268 for 1625 total to beat out previous leader Gaetan Mouvereaux from France for the top spot by 64 pins. Mouvereaux slipped to second place with 1561 and was followed by Giancarlo Ragusa of Belgium with 1532.

Joppe Belmans (right) of Belgium also waited until the last qualifying day to grab the lead in Boys 2, by far the biggest division with 46 players. Belmans used games of 150, 227, 227, 234, 182, 21 and 243 to win the division with 1479 total and an average of 211.29.

Jochem van Sabben, Netherlands, moved into second place with 1467, while previous leader Erik Holvast, Netherlands, fell to third place with 1424.

In the other seven divisions, the qualifying leaders remained unchanged.

Ukrainian youth bowlers Kyrylo Gayduk and Aleksandr Nechipaev held on to the lead in Boys 3 and 4 with 1121 pins (186.83) and 1167 (194.50).

Céline Ubert and Maroucha Stam, Netherlands, lead Girls 3 and 4 with 1030 (171.67) and 920 (153.33), respectively. Vince van der Loo, Netherlands, finished first in the Mixed Division with 868 (144.67).

All qualifying pinfall will be carried forward.

The 14th BBWZ International Youth Tournament runs from February 1-16 at Bowling Almere, a 24-laner in Almere, Netherland. The event is part of the Youth Euro Trophy (YET) and will be contested on a 40-ft. lane conditioning pattern

with 21.56ml volume oil total.

Boys and girls at the age of 21 and under and 18 and under will be split into four average divisions. There is also one mixed division for boys and girls at the age of 12 years and younger.

Boys and girls in Divisions 1 & 2 roll seven games of qualifying. All other divisions feature six games. The following players will advance (updated):

Division 1: Top 12 boys and top 5 girls
Division 2: Top 12 boys and top 12 girls
Division 3: Top 8 boys and top 7 girls
Division 4: Top 8 boys and top 4 girls
Mixed Division 1: Top 5

All qualifying pinfall will be carried forward. Divisions 1 & 2 bowlers roll additional four games to cut for the top 6 boys and the top 4 girls (Division 1) and the top 6 boys and the top 6 girls (Division 2) who will determine the champions in the round robin match play.

Division 2 boys and girls will play a five-game round starting at scratch. Players receive 20 bonus for a win and 10 for a tie. Additional bonus will be given for games from 225-249 (5 bonus), 250-274 (10 bonus) and 275+ (15 bonus).

Division 1 boys and girls will be combined into one mixed group to roll nine games of round robin. The same bonus and scoring rules as in Division 2 apply. The player with the highest pinfall total including all bonus pins will be declared the winner.

The players who survived the qualifying in Divisions 3 & 4 and the Mixed Division will determine the champions in a final round over five games. The player with the highest 11-game total including handicap (Mixed Division) will be declared the winner.
