Sasaki, Limansantoso win 2014 Macau International Open from No. 1 seed

    2014MacauOpenTomoyukiSasaki2.jpgTop-seeded Tomoyuki Sasaki of Japan and Indonesia's Sharon Limansantoso emerged as men's and women's Open Masters champions in the 2014 Macau International Open Sunday at COTAI bowling center in Macau, China.

    In the men's title match, Sasaki (pictured left) topped No. 5 seed, Yannaphon Larp-apharat, Thailand, 193-191, to end Larp-apharat's run to capture the 70,000 Macau pataca (MOP$) top prize, approximately US$ 8,605.

    The Thai national team member rolled a 201 game to survive the opening shootout match against No. 4 Mohammed Janahi (193), Bahrain, and No. 6 Michael Mak (200), Hong Kong, by the closest possible margin.

    In the semifinal match, Larp-apharat eliminated Ryan Lalisang (204), Indonesia, and No. 3 Sithiphol Kunaksorn (169), Thailand, for the right to bowl Sasaki for the title. As in most of the Asian Open Masters tournaments, the No. 1 seed must be defeated twice to win the title.

    2014MacauOpenSharonLimansantoso2.jpgFresh of her second-place finish in the 40th Hong Kong International Open Sharon Limansantoso (right) also made quick work of her challenger as she flew past Chinese Taipei spinner Wang Ya-Ting in the women's title match, 257-180. Limansantoso pocketed MOP$40,000 (US$4,915) for the feat.

    Wang, seeded second defeated compatriot Chou Chia-Chen, seeded third, and No. 4 Zhang Yu Hong of China in the semfinal, 214-200-176. Zhang rolled a 217 game in the opening shootout match against No. 5 Chan Suk Han (212), Hong Kong, and No. 6 Hong Hae Ni (171), Korea.

    The top 16 Asian men and top 16 Asian women qualified for the sixth leg of the 2014 Asian Bowling Federation Tour, to be held June 23 at COTAI bowling center in Macau.
