The prefecture (ken) of Aichi led both, the overall point list and the female point list, in the bowling competition of the 70th Japanese National Sports Festival, which was held from Sep. 26 - Oct. 2 at Kinokawa Bowl in Iwade-shi, Wakayama-Ken, Japan.

The players from Aichi accumulated 139 points in the men's and women's adult and juvenile divisions to finish well ahead of Kanagawa and Tokyo, who finished in second and third place with 82.5 and 72.5, respectively.

Aichi-Ken also led the point ranking in the female division (adult and juvenile) with 67 points, just 2.5 points ahead of Tokyo (64.5) with Okayama a distant third at 41 points.

Yusuke Masumizu of Fukuoka (pictured left) averaged 226.89 for nine games to win the title in adult Singles with 2042 pinfall total. National team member Misaki Mukotani of Chiba (right) captured her fourth consecutive women's Singles title with 2031 or an average of 225.67.


The individual titles for juveniles (15-17 years of age) went to Tomoya Yamashita of Tokyo (left) and Rena Obayashi of Okayama (right). Yamashita toppled 1989 pins (221 avg.) to win the boys' division, while Obayashi average 222 to beat out defending champion Shion Izumune of Ehime for the girls' top spot by six pins, 1992 to 1998.

The National Sports Festival is Japan's largest annual multi-sports event. Every year a prefecture (Ken) - one after the other - hosts and organizes all the sports competitions in cooperation with each sport's national governing body.

The Japan Sports Association and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports and Technology were the co-organizers of the event.

The Japan Bowling Congress (JBC) served as organizer of the bowling competition which featured Singles (Boys, Girls, Men and Women), two-player Team event (Boys, Girls, Men and Women) and four-Player Team event (Men and Women).

In each sport, points were awarded to the prefectures based on their players' positions. The points from all sports were tabulated and the Emperor's Cup was awarded to the prefecture which got the most overall points from all divisions while the Empress' Cup was awarded to the prefecture with most points in the female division only.

Points for Emperor's and Empress' Cup in the bowling competition:
Singles: 1st place - 8 points, 2nd place - 7, … and 8th place - 1 point.
Doubles/Team: 1st place - 24 points, 2nd place - 21, … and 8th place - 3 points.

At the conclusion of the 2015 Festival, the Emperor's Cup went to the to the host prefecture, Wakayama-Ken, while Tokyo-To received the Empress' Cup for the third consecutive year.
