Remy Ong overtakes lead in 2006 Men's Asian Rankings
2006 Asian Rankings
Within mere three tournaments or less than a month, Remy Ong from Singapore rocketed from 25th position into the lead of the 2006 Men's Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) rankings.
Ong won two gold medals in Singles and Doubles at the Men's World Championships in Korea, finished 11th in the Hong Kong Open and won his first ever ABF Tour title in the Hong Kong leg earlier this month. The lefty received 434 points in those three events to lead the rankings with 542 points.
Despite winning the Hong Kong Open, 2-time Asian ranking champion Wu Siu Hong (left), Hong Kong, slipped to second place with 483. Ryan Lalisang (right), Indonesia, is third at 429. Places four and five belong to Malaysians Alex Liew (428) and Azidi Ameran (422).
Australia's Jason Belmonte (left) is in sixth place (394), the same position he currently mans in the European rankings. World Masters champion Biboy Rivera, Philippines, cracked the top 8 to sit in seventh place with 377. Rounding out the top 8 is Zulmazran Zulkifli, Malaysia, with 334.
On the women's side, two-time Asian Championships gold medalist Putty Armein (left) from Indonesia continued to lead the rankings with 438 ranking point total. Malaysians Shalin Zulkifli and Lai Kin Ngoh remained in second and third place with 389 and 296 points, resp. Zulkifli won the women's title in the Hong Kong Open, while KN finished second and Armein third.
The next four places also remained unchanged with Wang Yu-Ling (left), Chinese Taipei, fourth 240, Choy Posh Lai, Malaysia, fifth 232, Wendy Chai (right), Malaysia, sixth 230 and Liza Clutario, Philippines, seventh 200. Tannya Roumimper, Indonesia, moved up three spots to tie Zandra Aziela, Malaysia, for 8th place with 189.
The top 8 men and top 8 women in the rankings at the end of the season qualify for the 2007 World Ranking Masters to be held in Doha, Qatar.
