Sandy Postma (left) of Lansing, Ill., is in position to become the first three-time United States Bowling Congress Senior Queens champion after sweeping through the three-game, double-elimination match play finals at Skore Lanes on Tuesday without a loss.

Postma, the 2004 and 2006 Senior Queens champion, defeated Joan Reilly of Wilmington, N.C., to earn a berth in Wednesday's title contest against Marliss Tapp (right) of Portage, Mich. Because Postma won her first five matches, Tapp will have to beat her in two three-game matches in order to win the title.

Postma, who also won the 1995 USBC Queens, is the only woman to win both the regular and 50-and-older senior versions of the event.

"It feels fantastic," Postma said, "especially after as much as I've struggled for two days."

Postma trailed after two games in four of her five matches but rallied in the third game to win each time.

"Every time I got on fresh lanes, I didn't know what they were going to do," she said. "And the condition changed so fast. But by the third game, the shot seemed to settle down, I settled down, got lined up a bit and executed a few good shots, which also helps."

Postma's obvious goal was to get to the championship match without a loss.

"I like being top seed," she said. "Joan almost got me, but she almost got me in the 2006 title match, too. She beat me the first match in Reno, and I beat her in the second to win."

Tapp hopes to avenge her 606-554 loss to Postma in the first winners bracket match Tuesday. After that loss, Tapp reeled off five straight wins, including a 625-554 decision over Reilly, to get her second shot at Postma.

After struggling through her match with Postma, she changed bowling balls for her fill ball in the final frame, moved to an outside angle in the next game and was unstoppable from that point.

"I'm lucky I knew enough to keep looking for something that would work," Tapp said. "And I made my spares along the way. My spare shooting was really good today.

"I'm exhausted," she admitted. "I was running on adrenalin, but I'll be ready in the morning. If I can get lined up (against Postma), I'll do okay."

The title and $3,000 top prize will be decided at 10 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday.
