International bowling stars Amleto Monacelli (pictured left) of Venezuela and Andres Gomez (right) of Colombia, are among the match play survivors after the PBA Chameleon Championship Round of 16 Thursday at Thunderbowl Lanes. Both players will battle it out in the Round of 8 match.

Monacelli, a PBA Hall of Famer and 19-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour titlist, defeated Mike DeVaney 4-3 in the best-of-seven-game match after being down 3-0 to advance to the Round of 8 that will determine the players who will compete in the semifinal and final rounds Sept. 5.

"There was a time when I would get discouraged being down 3-0 or 2-0 in a best-of-five match," Monacelli said. "Now I've changed my attitude where I try to keep figuring out what I'm doing wrong or working on making the right adjustments, or finding the right equipment."

Gomez defeated two-handed specialist and one-time Tour titlist Jason Belmonte (pictured left) of Australia, 4-1 in his best-of-seven-game Round of 16 match.

The 36-year-old Gomez, who has won numerous titles in international competition and has been a member of the Colombian national team for 19 years, returns to Tour action after becoming an exempt player in the 2005-06 season where he had a best finish of ninth.

"It was kind of ironic that when I became exempt, I didn't do that well on Tour because my game wasn't matching up for whatever the reason," said Gomez. "But I wanted to give the Tour one more shot and now I believe I'm bowling as well as I ever have."

Among other Round of 16 winners were Hall of Famer and all-time win leader Walter Ray Williams Jr. (left) and four-time Tour titlist and qualifying leader Sean Rash as well as 2005-06 Rookie of the Year Bill O'Neill (right) who rolled a 300 in the final game against Steve Jaros, Yorkville, Ill., to win the match, 4-3.

The PBA Chameleon Championship semifinal and championship rounds will be conducted on PBA's Chameleon lane conditioning pattern on Sept. 5 at Thunderbowl Lanes and taped for telecast on ESPN Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. ET.

Among the players advancing to the PBA Women's Series Chameleon Championship semifinal were 20-time women's professional titlist Carolyn Dorin-Ballard (pictured left) and 12-time titlist Liz Johnson (right). Dorin-Ballard defeated Diandra Asbaty, 4-1 and Johnson defeated Kelly Kulick, 4-1. In the two other Round of 8 matches, Shannon Pluhowsky defeated Tammy Boomershine, 4-3 and Jodi Woesnner defeated Lynda Barnes, 4-2.

The Women's Series semifinal round will determine the finalists for the Women's Series Chameleon Championship match also to be conducted on Sept. 5 and aired Nov. 22.
