Sascha Obst ends European Youth Championships with victory in Boys Masters

    2006EYCBoysMasters.jpg Germany's Sascha Obst ended the 19th European Youth Championships at World Cup Hallen in Roedovre, Denmark with a 2-1 victory over James Gruffman, Sweden, en route to claim the Boys Masters title. Obst, the No. 7 seed, came out of the gates fast, winning game one in the best-of-three format, 205-203. Gruffman, seeded fourth, came back and evened the match with a 232-172 win, forcing the third game which Obst won, 205-172.

    In an all-Swedish semi-final match, Gruffman defeated Patrick Bohm, 2-0. Obst went the distance to eliminate David Jones, England, 2-1. Picture courtesy of Thord Lagercrantz.
